I spent five nights at the Ruili Hotel in September for business in the Anting district. It is hard to find because the hotel address is on Boyang, but the entrance faces a different street, and the hotel does not have any signs that say Ruili, everything says SORL, and the huge sign on top of the 37 story building is in Chinese characters. The rooms are large and comfortable. Breakfast was a nice buffet with many western selections and it was included in the room price. For me, the best part is the proximity to the restaurants, Family Mart convenience store, and entrance to the park across the street. There is a nice place serving western food and Belgian beer on tap across the street, and a Spanish food restaurant just a block or two away. The park is very large with no motor vehicles so a very nice place to walk in the evening. The downside is that English language skills were very low (almost none), no currency exchange or ATM, and American Express card did not work (they said they excepted AmEx, but could not get it to work). Like all hotels I have experienced in China, the WiFi was ridiculously slow and I have to use data rather than WiFi to do anything other than no attachment...

Breakfast is quite good too.||||The reason it is only average is || - far away from city|| - The house keeping really should do their job.||||We suppose get a king bed, but was told nothing available as waiting for house cleaning to clean them. (It was already after 6pm) so they gave us 3 single beds|| ||Arrived at the room, it doesn't have bath towels, toilet paper, instant coffee etc. I ask for them at front desk, but it took the house keeping lady a while, but finally came she came to the room with the items. She promptly told us that 7th floor doesn't get instant coffee. This is a first I heard that. Due to jetlag, we wake up super early and would like coffee before breakfast open||||On second night, we found a dirty pillow case on one of the beds. Next day we realize one of the pillow didn't have pillow case on it.||||There is a great hand cut noodle place...
Read moreGreat location if you’re going for Shanghai F1 GP, just 2 metro stations to the circuit. Short walk around 8 mins to nearby station. Room is tidy with adequate space. Buffet breakfast has a lot of variety of food to choose. One major drawback was that there was no air-conditioning in the room but there is in the corridor, we couldn’t turn the room temperature below 26C. The manager did change another room and provide a fan for us but the situation was not changed. At the end, we had to open up the window to get fresh cool air, fortunately the outside temperature at night was around 12-18C and we could manage to keep the room temperature at around 23C. The official explanation was that the air conditioning was centrally controlled and kept at a warmer temperature for most visitors not to feel cold! The period that we visited was mid March and the weather was not too cold...
