I've stayed at this hotel many times as it's close to my company offices. On 3 of 5 occasions when I checked in I'd be told that I had been given a room upgrade because I was a Gold Elite member, except on these occasions I'd find the rooms and amenities exactly the same as the non-upgraded rooms. "Why did they tell me I'd been upgraded then?" I thought to myself. On the most recent stay I was told I had been given an upgrade again. This time I decided to call their bluff. "Awesome! So what did you upgrade me to?" I asked. "We upgraded you to a Deluxe Room," said the clerk. I pulled out my reservation confirmation through the IHG app and showed the clerk, "but my reservation was for a Deluxe Room already! So what will you upgrade me to then?" The clerk looked at my confirmation and at me, turned to her manager and told him I was having problem with the "upgrade" they gave me. The Manager said, "Well, we really did give you an upgrade to Deluxe. If you're not happy with the Deluxe, we're all sold out so cannot give you any other upgrade." "But my reservation was already for a Deluxe," I said, "so if I'm getting what I reserved for, then you didn't give me an upgrade as you told me, did you?!" The Manager argued, "No, we did give you an upgrade! Maybe it's problems with the system..." I figured the conversation wasn't gonna go anywhere, so just told the Manager, "I am perfectly fine with what I reserved, but next time, please don't say you've given an upgrade if you really have not." Other than issues with the Front Desk, the hotel's location is good - very close to the subway station "ZhenBei" and there's a huge shopping center right on top of the subway with lots of restaurants. 2 Starbucks are nearby. :-) And as the title of my review suggests, bedding is very good, definitely can get a good...
Read moreHi,
my bad experience from not even staying at this hotel....
I booked this hotel for 2 nights with a late arrival guarantee (that would be my first stay at this hotel).
Unfortunately, I was very late with my arrival in Shanghai and missed the cancellation window. I stayed at another hotel, in another city for that night...
The night of scheduled arrival, I was calling their number, but nobody picked up and there was no voicemail.
I called them in the morning, and tried to talk to manager about voiding the charges, but there was nobody to talk, they promised to call later in the day.
They contacted me after 2 days, to let me know that they charge the first night because of the no-show.
I explained, that they should not be doing that, because the hotel was not sold out, and they did not lose any business because of my reservation and room guarantee.
I offered to stay with them during my next trips to Shanghai (which I do a lot), to help them make up the business. Unfortunately, they insisted that this is the policy and they need to charge me.
So clearly, they are after my money, not good relation with future business... I will not plan any stay with them in the future.
More disappointing, after paying for the room which they claim I "used", I have not been credited with any IHG reward points or reward night. Something which the rules do not address, and open to interpretation by IHG representatives.
Interestingly, in the phone call, an IHG representative probably felt somewhat guity about the whole situation, as she offered some "goodwill points"... I refused being bribed. Very strange relations.
I think other hotel networks manage that...
Read moreIt was silly of me to have grossly underestimated the change of weather in Shanghai
I sat in the open for quite a while with colleague at 6pm and it was cold
When I returned to Crown plaza, I suddenly felt unwell and my body aching
I called room service thru the assistance service asking for some hot tea
I was pleasantly surprised that the service manager called the room to ask about my well being and that he already instructed for a hot ginger tea to be sent to my room
I received and took the tea after my hot tub bath
I must say that it is really not easy to be in hotels 25 days monthly and especially when You fall ill
This simple and efficient gesture of a call and the offer of hot tea really meant a lot , at least to me - a time where "TLC" is much appreciated
A special thanks to the person who received my call and took the initiative to alert the manager, a special thanks to the duty manager to take the trouble to call me in my room and a great work well done to the management team who trained the service staff here well.
Thanks to the "faceless" hero/s that allowed me to now go to sleep in a better shape
I am proud to be a Espire elite.
Good...
