Crowne Plaza Shanghai Xiayang Lake — Hotel in Shanghai

Really far from city! Hardware outdated. But the Staff make up for it all…!||If you’re staying here at this hotel, it’s probably because you’re here in the area for business. If you want to go to the city from this hotel, it will take you at least one hour. ||That being said, how was the experience? The bed was really not up to standard I believe, unfortunately. It felt like the bed was really old and needed to have the mattress replaced. ||When I went to the gym, I thought I walked into a closet! It was tiny, the machines were old (1990’s era), and two out of three of the treadmills were broken! If you want a good workout – go take a run outside instead! A lot of people are doing that.||I do have to thank the staff, though! They go out of their way to welcome you, and you can feel they are serving you with their heart. After I checked into my room, shortly after the check-in staff came up to see if I was happy with the room. 😀 ||Breakfast was international standard, they have something for everyone. They also really try to cater to children in this hotel. They have food, games, and even a pig farm for children to enjoy! (That pig was so cute…)||Lastly, I want to thank the front desk staff. I checked out out of the hotel earlier than my booking. And when I did that, I was expecting to pay the full amount which I had booked. However, much to my pleasant surprise, the front staff offered to only charge me half the fee for my last day! I offered to pay a full price happily, however, he said he would only charge me half to price I wanted to shake his hand in gratitude! Like I said – the staff make up for it all...

This hotel is everything you expect from a Crowne Plaza, well equipped rooms, stylish architecture, helpful staff and a high level of background quality.||||Not wanting to be negative (perhaps informative) my only problem was that my Chinese is non-existent and many of the staff had little English. I do not expect everyone to speak English, and any questions I had were soon resolved once multi lingual staff were found; just be prepared to sometimes have to wait.||||As to the good things... the rooms are comfy and well equipped for sleeping, resting or working in. The bathroom in particular was excellent. The minibar had a nice selection of snacks when needed and the bed was very comfortable.||||Breakfast was an excellent meal with numerous selections available, the only trick was exploring all the possible options to select those few you could eat every day. The coffee was fresh and superb.||||As I only wanted a swift bite in the evening I dined in the international restaurant, which tended to be a quiet affair as regards guest numbers, but was often graced with live music. The selection was fairly normal for such a chain hotel and of reasonable quality.||||The hotel offers morning drop offs to some local destinations which I found very useful as regards visiting local businesses. It also had a robot room service which small children will love!||||Across the road from the hotel is a shopping and dining area with lots of choices and a Carrefour supermarket, useful for last minute gifts.||||I may have to return to the area and will stay here again, no...

I recently stayed from 4/4/2025 to 6/4/2025 and regret to share that the experience fell far below expectations. While the location was convenient and room was clean, critical service issues overshadowed the stay:

Housekeeping Communication Failure The housekeeping phone line was nearly impossible to reach—only 1 out of 10 calls was answered. Simple requests like extra towels or toiletries became frustrating tasks. For a hotel of this caliber, such poor responsiveness is unacceptable.

No Child-Friendly Amenities As a parent traveling with a 3-year-old child, I was shocked to find zero child-sized bathrobes, slippers, or toiletries available. The staff simply said, "We don’t provide those." If family-friendliness is advertised, basic necessities for children should be a priority.

Misleading Lounge Access My booking confirmation clearly stated lounge access as part of the room package. However, the front desk dismissed this benefit without explanation. False advertising damages trust, and no effort was made to compensate for the error.

Train staff to honor booked benefits and clarify policies.

Ensure 24/7 responsiveness for guest requests.
