In previous trips, had always stayed at higher-priced and touristy districts. Fairfield Jingan was the organiser's base hotel for a series of meetings and visits in/around Shanghai 4-9 September. |The pictures and district did not look assuring; nonetheless booked it for the convenience. And it was a positive choice.|I was allocated room 612 in Building B, directly connected to Lobby. Room was quite spacious. 2 sofa benches and a swivel chair share a round table. Adequate storage area c/w room safe, iron and fridge. Daily a 1.5ltr bottle plus 2 small bottles of water. Room aircon with responsive control was good. Towels and linens were clean. The shower and shampoo in dispensers caused skin irritation though. |Used (local uber) Didi or organised transport so getting around was not an issue. Had difficulty getting a car/taxi only once - on weekend - from The Bund area. Took the subway instead. Very very long walk at interchange station (hotel is on line 1 Yangchang Rd, exit 3). At road surface, turn right and walk straight about 7 minutes, cross a road and Fairfield is there besides a 24hr mini mart and mutton noodle shop. ( Knowing your subway ALTERNATIVE is like having insurance. )|Breakfast is served in Building C, quite good and not too crowded. |Oh yes, coffee is available - free - 24/7 at the LOBBY in takeaway cups. |The less youngish staff at coffee shop are very helpful. The rest of the staff are plainly efficient but no where near hospitable. Probably interns and bored trainees being readied for Marriott group postings. |For an easy-on-the-pocket Marriott- hotel, Jingan is good hardware. No smiles, no...

Read moreIt was the most terrible experience when I stayed in Fairfield by Marriott Shanghai Jingan.|I ordered the manicure service because of urgent shooting work. The manicure staff did not bring her ID card with her. The front office manager Alex Tao did not allow the manicure staff to see me in the room according to some policy. I said that's fine. Is there anything you can do for me to solve the problem? He said there was nothing he could do, policy is policy. His attitude was very hostile and aggressive.|In the end I had to do my manicure in the hotel lobby...embarrassedly.|After that, I asked Alex Tao, which one is more important? The policy or the attitude to service clients? He answered confidently: first policy, and then client service. I have to stick to the policy, otherwise I will be fired.||There was nothing I could say.|In his mind, the policy, the employment both prior to client service.|There was nothing I could say...|I like Fairfield by Marriott Shanghai Jingan. I stayed there for many times. The facility is good. |But I think it was the last time I stayed there because of the bad service...
