I spent 8 nights at the Howard Johnson Lingang in January 2019. This is a 4 Star hotel with two restaurants, a Starbucks, ATM, convenience store, gym, room service, business center, bar, and other amenities. The best is the breakfast buffet, which has a wide selection of Chinese and Western foods, including a soup bar, fresh fruits, and eggs to order. In the evening the menu has a wide range including pizza, steaks, and hamburgers, and Chinese dishes. Large clean rooms, quiet hallways, and my room had a full-sized walk-out balcony. Very convenient if you have business in the Lingang neighborhood, but about an hour drive from anything of a tourist nature. The hotel is about 40 minutes to an hour from the airport, depending on traffic. The reservation system is the worst I have ever experienced. I made reservations through my company travel agent for 7 nights, then had to add one night. I called the reservation group (Wyndham) and was told I could not modify the original, so I made a new reservation for one more night. I downloaded the app and both reservations were there. The day before flying to China I called the reservation number again because the app only showed the 1-day reservation. Without any explanation or answer why or how, I was told that my reservation had been cancelled, so I made a new reservation for 8 nights and cancelled the 1-night. When I arrived at the hotel they only had the original 7-night reservation and none of the others! To get an 8-night stay I had to cancel my 7-day stay, and make ANOTHER 8-night reservation. I am waiting to see if they charge my credit card for all the reservations or just the one I used. What a cluster f**k. FYI: The wifi is useless. The only time I had internet was when my laptop was plugged into the cable in my room. No fault of the hotel, but phone service was also very sketchy, and I was able to receive calls but not call out. Not very easy to do business for a week when you cannot make a phone call. My only other minor complaint was the temperature in the room: it was hot (24C), and the air conditioning is turned off. The choice is hot, or hotter. It is almost freezing outside, but had to keep my balcony wide open all night (and listen to the outside noise) to have comfortable...
Read moreI spent 2 weeks in this hotel because 10min taxi from my company plant. Hotel is clean and quiet (very rare in Shanghai to be in a quiet area). ||Rooms are confortable and propose a wide range of amenities. The laundry service is efficient and affordable. ||There are 2 restaurants (1 Western + 1 Chinese) I had dinner in both of them and their food is great. In the western restaurant I was alone but I did not care. ||I could read that breakfast was not OK. I don’t understand because there is a lot of choices : eggs cooked on different ways, bacon, sausage, beans, cherry tomatoes and lots of Chinese dishes (noodles, soups, buns, vegetables ...). Also Western food : different breads, cakes, platter of cheese. Fresh vegetables...||For sure there is no entertainment in the hotel but I am not expecting karaoke or billard or sauna when I travel for business. If you need to see people you can ask the reception to book a taxi to drive you to BAOLONG or PING’AN, places 10-12 min by taxi. If you need to go downtown you would need 75min. ||I would have appreciated an outdoor lounge place because they have a vey nice terrace with wooden floor, bamboos and a little river. I would have enjoyed reading a book or having a drink outside. ||Apart from the detail I will definitely come back for my next business trip to...
Read moreThis hotel really is in the middle of nowhere, especially if you do not have a car. The only reason I think most people stay here is it's proximity to many companies located nearby in the industrial park. ||||The hotel itself is typically Chinese Howard Johnson, i.e. more like a local hotel than an international one. There was a lobby bar but never seemed opened. Food is only available at the Western restaurant, and the Chinese one, which is thankfully, quite good but you need to have a few people so that you can order a range of dishes.||||The gym had decent machines but was unattended. No paper cups for the water cooler. No towels for gym use (except hand towels at the sink) or disinfectant. Dimly lit as well. There was a spa and hair salon but closed down (probably due to poor business). Overall, a very basic and cold hotel, which is typical of a local hotel.||||On the plus side, there's a Starbucks at the lobby area, but that closes at 6pm. There's also a Lawson convenience store (which should be 24 hours) but that also closes after 8 or 9pm.||||The bed however, was very comfortable and I had a good...
