My wife and I stayed at the Meliá Shanghai Parkside because of its location near Disney, and overall the hotel itself is beautiful. The lobby and entrance really give you that 5 star feel, which we loved.

That being said, our experience wasn’t what we expected from a Meliá property. Before arriving, I emailed asking if we could check in early and they confirmed it wouldn’t be a problem. But when we arrived, they told us it wasn’t possible. The check-in process itself was pretty unprofessional and not very smooth. I even showed my Meliá member card (I’m Gold, have stayed at several of their hotels in other countries) and the staff didn’t even know what it was.

What really surprised us though was that no one spoke English— not even a little. I don’t want to sound like a “complaining tourist,” but for a world-renowned 5-star brand located right next to Disney, you’d expect at least one person who can communicate in English. Instead, we had to use Google Translate to sort everything out, from check-in to ordering room service. For example, when I called for room service, the staff member who answered only spoke Mandarin, said “no” when I asked if she spoke English, and then just went silent. Again, Translate saved the day, but it made the whole thing frustrating.

The hotel itself is great, the location is excellent, and the property looks the part— but the service, professionalism, and lack of basic communication really didn’t match what you’d expect from Meliá or a...

I was nervous to stay here as there were so few reviews but this hotel is amazing. I thought the price was so much cheaper than the Disney hotels and looked nicer from photos. The biggest selling point is the location. Google has the hotel in the wrong place but its only a 10/15 minute walk to Disneyland. The hotel is down a long path where they can golf cart you up and down. So I was watching the fireworks at 9:30pm and I was in bed at 10pm. We got a didi taxi from central Shanghai which only cost 90 Yuan. The staff were super friendly however, they don't speak much English. This was not an issue as they used a translate app for any questions we had. We were shown to our room which was massive, it was really nicely furnished and the bathroom was really great. The room had a kettle and tea/coffee, lots of toiletries (tooth brushes ect). Our room was very quiet. The beds were super comfy. In the morning we went down for breakfast not knowing if it was included or not. We were informed it was not included and cost 198 yuan per person. That was expensive for China but we felt the breakfast buffet was fantastic, fresh noodles, eggs, pastries ect. Only thing is breakfast started at 7am and we had paid early entry at 7:30am so...

Nicely located within 10 minutes of walking distant to Disneyland Shanghai. Beautiful hotel within a park itself, the garden is huge and staff goes their beyond to maintain the needs and happiness of the guest.||We were given an opportunity to experience the premier room and it’s good size for those with family of 4 as the space is amazing. When we request the service, the response is immediate and accommodating. ||There is a restaurant for all day dining and Tapas bar on the 1st floor. The food from Mosaic Restaurant is well tender and compliments to the kitchen, it’s delicious. ||There is a shuttle service from 07:00 - 23:00 that bring you from the entrance gate to the hotel and vice versa, however if you are calling an E-hailing driver they can only wait for you at the entrance gate somehow since the application pin at that location. Which we have to walk at 05:00 to catch our driver to the airport. ||Overall even though it was a short stay, the people are nice and did their beyond service with a smile. We will choose again this place should we visits Shanghai again.||Period of stay -...

We arrived at Melia Parkside Shanghai using DiDi from Pudong Airport — very smooth and convenient, took about 40–50 minutes depending on traffic. The hotel is clean, modern, and surprisingly quiet, even though it’s located near a major attraction. The room was spacious, well-maintained, and comfortable — perfect after a long day of travel. It feels a bit secluded, which we actually liked, but do note that getting to Disneyland takes about a 25-minute walk. It’s manageable if you’re used to walking, or you can always book another quick DiDi ride. Overall, a peaceful and relaxing place to stay, especially if you’re visiting Shanghai Disneyland but want a bit of quiet away from the crowds.
