I often stay in Mercure hotels worldwide but this is simply a modern Chinese hotel, nothing to do with Mercure standards. ||||The rooms all have a first number as an 8, regardless of the floor. Ok 8 in China is good luck, but when you get into the elevator for the first time, you naturally try to get to the eight floor, only to discover that the card is not enabled for that floor (my room was at sixth, I discovered). ||Tricky. ||||Big modern rooms, separate shower and toilet, while the sink is in the room. ||Coffee & teapot in the room, but empty refrigerator, you are supposed to go out and buy what you like. Cleaning so-so (long black hair on the floor, I am bald), Wi-Fi working decently.||||Air con works well, but you have to guess how to use it as the control is only in Chinese. Vive la France!||||The reception staff try to be kind, but they simply do not speak any foreign language, they use the phone translator. ||||You need an umbrella?, You can take from the machine at the entrance, but only if you have WeChat with paying option enabled on your phone. And this is a French hotel?||||||Location, not in the middle of nowhere, there are some shops around, but the closest subways are at 900 mt and at 1.300 mt. a distance you do not want to walk under the heat of July,||They claim to have a shuttle bus for the closest big mall and subway station, but indications are only in Chinese (see photo).||||I checked him at night on Day 1, my room was prepaid but I offered anyway my credit card for the extras. They said (in signs) that it was not needed.||On the morning of Day 2 I left some laundry and when back in the evening it was not back. I went down to the reception imagining that, because they had no credit card in guarantee, my laundry was kept there. No, they "told" me tomorrow. ||On Day 3 I left again some laundry and on the night of Day 3 nothing was back. I complained, but it was late and the laundry service was not on duty (mobile phone translator)||On Day 4 I woke up earlier in order to have time to chase my laundry. ||Indeed, all of us that come to Shanghai in July are there not for business, but only to play hide and seek with our own laundry.||After 10 minutes "talking" at the reception, they finally found my laundry, but only the one of Day 3. The one of Day 2? "Oh really you did not get it back?"||Simply unbelievable.||On Day 5, my check out day, I finally got my laundry of Day 2 back, at least I could pack it and leave.||||This is not a hotel, it is a joke.||||Oh yes, the breakfast. IDENTICAL, every day, even the fruits were every day the same. The only variation was the French baguette. One day fresh, the following day… the same as the day before.||Stale baguette in a French hotel? Mon Dieu!||||There is a wonderful espresso machine if you do not like the American style coffee. But it does not work, says the sign (only in Chinese).||But the nicest aspect is the young lady that checks you in for the breakfast; a concentration camp Kapo would be more smiling.||||I will try to avoid any Mercure hotel in China...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at the Mercure Hotel and was thoroughly impressed by the overall experience. The accommodation was excellent, offering a comfortable and well-appointed room that made for a very pleasant stay.A special mention goes to Mr. Jiang at the front desk, who was exceptionally helpful. When I needed to book a cab to the airport, he assisted promptly and efficiently, ensuring a stress-free departure. The hotel’s location is convenient, with a shopping area right opposite. However, it appears that many of the shops are closed down, which is a bit of a letdown. Nonetheless, the proximity to Qibao town, just a 20 RMB taxi fare away, makes up for it with its charming attractions and local experiences. The only suggestion I have for improvement is the cleanliness of the room’s toilet. There was a noticeable smell that needs to be addressed to enhance the overall comfort although they free upgraded me to a premium room.Overall, I had a great stay and would recommend the Mercure Hotel for its excellent accommodation and...
Read moreMy stay at this hotel started with a HORRIBLE experience at check-in. Despite having a COMFIRMED booking through Trip.com, the front desk insisted that I CANCEL my reservation and rebook directly with them, promising a refund. This made no sense! Why should I cancel a prepaid booking, especially when refunds aren’t guaranteed? There seemed to be a language barrier, but that’s no excuse for their unprofessional behavior. I firmly refused because first, c anceling would risk losing my payment** (since my booking was non-refundable). Second, rebooking would likely cost more their "promise" of a refund seemed unreliable. And lastly, Trip.com bookings should be honored! What's the point of using a booking platform if hotels pressure guests to cancel? Thankfully, after arguing, they finally accepted my original booking, but the entire situation was unnecessary and stressful. I was lucky it didn’t ruin my stay, but this hotel clearly prioritizes their own profits over guest...
