If you are visiting Shanghai and don't need to be downtown, the Vienna Hotel in Songjiang is an alternative to the high prices of downtown Shanghai. ||||Located in the Songjiao area near the new Honguiao train station and the old Honguiao (domestic) airport, we liked the Vienna Hotel but did wonder about the sofas. On each floor, a pair of sofas stand opposite the bank of three elevators. After a few waits for the elevator, we knew the answer. With 20 floors and relatively slow elevators, sometimes we really did need a sofa ... and maybe a short nap ... as we waited.||||Our room was a better place to nap, though. For about $60/night, including one breakfast, we enjoyed a small suite combining a large bedroom, a large bathroom, and a smaller sitting room. Smaller rooms are available for about $35/night. ||||A disappointing part of the Vienna Hotel is the lobby. The lobby is -- how to say it politely? -- not very nice. A disagreeable odor comes from the lobby restaurant (how could hotel staff overlook that smell?) while the lobby decor and layout are sub-par. Maybe the intent of the unattractive lobby is to hurry guests to their rooms so they don't hang around excessively. We didn't.||||Our room included one buffet breakfast, not two, as we often enjoyed elsewhere. A small loss, as we found out. The Vienna Hotel breakfast, like most other aspects of the hotel, is more closely aligned with Chinese than Western tastes.||||To sum up, the Vienna Hotel is a good option for those transiting through Honguiao airport or the new Honguiao train station. If you need access to downtown Shanghai, other options...
Read moreWe arrived late about 11.30 pm on 20 Feb 2019 and checked in at Vienna Hotel at SongJiang. There were no guests at the time and there were two receptionist at the front desk, check-in was a breeze as rooms had been pre-booked. I got room no. 8749 on the 7th floor.||||The room is well furnished, well lit and clean as well as complete with the usual amenities at the dressing table, pantry and bathroom. There is only shower cubicle in the bathroom with choice of either hand or large rain shower. The Deluxe Room kingsize bed is comfortable with firmness of pillows to my liking. As it is still in the winter season, outside temperature is -2 degree C for the night, but temperature in the room is a cozy 19 degrees C.||||Morning breakfast is served on the ground floor restaurant. It is mainly Chinese spread with rice porridge and millet porridge, fried noodles, fried rice, meat dishes, hot coffee/tea, soya bean milk, etc. There is a salad bar with bread and butter. Breakfast choice is limited.||||The hotel is rated at 4 stars businessmen type hotel as it is situated at the outskirt of the main city of Shanghai. With the "Vienna" name, the interior of this hotel lobby is decorated with paintings of the Maestro Mozart. The panel behind the Front Desk also features reliefs of Mozart in various gait and postures. Statuettes of Mozart also welcome guests at the porte-cochere at entrance to hotel lobby. ||||As we left early in the morning, I did not enjoy all the other facilities. Nevertheless, it has been a pleasant stay and well...
Read moreI have stayed there for 4 nights. My work place was close to the hotel but the nearest visiting places were far away from the hotel. I have also failed to mark any significant western restaurant near the hotel. The food menu was not favorable to people other than the Chinese. But the room was good. I don’t know about the other rooms as I have stayed on the top floor and one of the best rooms available in the hotel. It was comfortable, clean,...
