The area is not the most desirable location. The taxi driver did not know the place. Gem Cube does has a distinctive appearance but was not well known. Booking made from the Best Western International Site was not being found at check in. Front desk agent claimed they seldom receive booking from the BW International site - international traveller beware as the hotel is independently owned and operated.||Aircon unit was not on, windows were opened, and insects were in the room because of that. The sounds of the street hawkers were loud even with windows shut. There were not much issues with the amenities of the room as it was somewhat new. WIFI was slow.||The main disappointment is the area. We thought there were a mall (Gem Cube) next door but turned out it was still being rented out so nothing there except an Indian/Nepal restaurant which was very much empty. We walked around the neighborhood. One Warmart and one local department store. No decent restaurant except 2-3 local fast food chain stores. ||We retreated to the western restaurant in the hotel, where again we were the only patron for the night.||Breakfast was a set menu, three limited sets to choose from. If you are from the western world you really have only one set choice.||They did not accept American Express for bill settlement.||I would say the minimum, not your go-to hotel in the Western...
Read moreHad 2 stays booked here. Both stays we booked a superior king room. The first stay (December 2017) I was a little shocked to see that the carpets in communal areas (lifts and corridors) were in significantly better condition than the one in our room which clearly had quite a history of stains!!! A visit from housekeeping was duly undertaken and we were assured that, despite appearances, the carpet was clean (absolute nonsense). The bathroom door was a sliding affair that had detached from its base meaning it rattled around all over the place, obviously hadnt been cleaned for some time and hanging loose on its sliding rail, afforded zero privacy. Generally a fairly grubby room, no plug in sink etc. but not dissimilar to other Chinese hotels I have stayed in. ||Visit 2 in early January a few days later and I specifically requested a room with a clean carpet! Well either we had deliberately been put in a grotty room on visit 1 or that room was reserved for when all other rooms were occupied, but the second room was lovely. Clean carpet and a proper door to the bathroom! ||My advice therefore is to ask to see your room before you commit-they clearly vary despite being of the same type (superior king...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for 420RMB per twin room (we were 4 adult family members) towards the end of May 2015 for 1 night. The room was cosy and modern. WIFI internet access is free. The buffet breakfast had a mixture of Chinese food items (mainly) and some western foods (such as fried eggs, grilled tomatoes, baked beans and toast. The staff members are generally friendly and the desk is there 24 hours. We selected this hotel because it is relatively close to the airport but not noisy (within 10-15 minutes' drive depending on traffic). If we do fly through Shenzhen airport again, I would definitely come back here.||||About 90 seconds walk to the rear of the hotel is a modern small shopping mall with an ATM, 2 Chinese restaurants, some fastfood restaurants, a dessert cafe and a KTV bar.||||One thing that is rather peculiar is that by the lift elevators, the hotel staff seem to think that it is nice to put some small gold fishes in a...
