This is my second visit to a Shangri-La hotel. After trying out the Island Shangri-La during the COVID times in HK, I would like to give it a go at one of the newest Shangri-La hotels in Shenzhen, the |Shangri-la Nanshan. (SLN)||Let's talk about the hotel experience first. As it was pouring outside, we arrived at the hotel from the RAIL-IN shopping centre through the Summer Palace (SLN's Chinese restaurant). This was the shortcut path from the shopping centre to the hotel but it would be very awkward to use as we had to go through the restaurant each time, and it was only opened during the restaurant opening hours. So we were not sure if this was intended for the hotel guests to use or not.||Anyway, once arrived at the lobby, there were 4 desks and a central sitting area for check-in/out but as there were no queues nor a ticketing system so it was a bit of a chaos especially when the sitting area was full of people. As a Jade member, we were entitled for the priority check-in but as there was no sign of any priority check-in counter so we basically had to stand there not knowing what to do.||We tried to ask one of the desks if there was any priority check-in counter and the people there thought we were pushing in. It was not a pleasant nor welcoming experience.||At the end we had to ask one of the other staff who was just passing by and we got led to floor 66 where we could check-in at the entrance of the Horizon lounge. ||We got upgraded to floor 74 and Crystal (who checked-in for us) also personally took us to the room. Her service was excellent and professional. Our room was decorated with a birthday theme though I guess that was part of the perks as a Jade member. (together with a nice pistachio mousse cake brought to me in the afternoon) ||Even though we (still) had the city view but at 74th floow we were much taller than most surrounding buildings so the view was still excellent! The room was new, spacious, modernly furnished but still had the signature Shangri-La theme (like the bird cage and the Chinese-like decorations). ||The bathroom was spacious, with the tub and shower (with a proper bench for sitting down) and the toilet in another separate area. Now inside the toilet room was also a separate sink to wash your hands after doing your business I think this was the most missed feature I have encountered in most other luxurious hotels. (Do they expect ppl to open the toilet door before washing your hands?)||We tried the swimming pool and it was supposed to be the indoor infinity swimming pool at the top (78th floor). The swimming pool was not large and it wasn't that infinity as between the pool and the window there was quite a distance. The jacuzzi, on the other hand, was large and spacious, with different sprays for massaging. However, it was so hot I thought I went into an onsen. ||As it turned out that by law, everyone must have a swimming cap before getting into the pool. So for those who were caught out had to buy one there or just stayed dry on the loungers.||Last but definitely not least was the buffet breakfast served at Café 66. Like most 5* hotels in Shenzhen, the variety of food served was huge. It was impossible to sample everything without getting a full stomach to...

Read moreThe hotel looks modern and luxurious, but the design is not user friendly enough. The toilet is separate from the bathroom at the far end of the room. There is no soap (and no soap dish) in the toilet so you need to go to the bathroom at the other end of the room to wash your hands. Only Chinese plugs can fit in the sockets in the room, which is not convenient for travellers from other places as separate adapters have to be used. Moreover, beware of the high-tech motion sensor in the room that will trigger to cut the power of your room when you sit still watching tv.||||In terms of location, it is close to the Shenzhen Bay border point and Shenzhen Metro Station. The district is new and under development so you'll find yourself surrounded by construction sites. The nearby Rail-In shopping mall is new but not much to see and shop.||||The Horizon Club is nice, but can be better if breakfast is offered there instead of the cafe. Patrons of the club rooms enjoy the exclusiveness of the club lounge, and do not prefer the crowded cafe. The cocktails offered at the club lounge during the evening cocktail period are very nice though. Good job. The view at the lounge is stunning, I must admit.||||It was nice trying this new hotel, but I personally prefer staying in a more developed district like Futian where hotels in the same league are at half price and you can get lots of fun in shopping...
