The location of the hotel is great. The rooms were clean and generally tidy. I was surprised to find however that there were no disposable slippers although that maybe a hotel policy to prevent waste but I think they should be made available on request.Breakfast had a good selection and was worth the cost. Sadly, we did not have time to avail of any of the other facilities in the hotel. The weak point seems to be the check in process. It took far too long, I do not expect to spend fifteen minutes to check into a hotel with a prepaid reservation. There is no issue with language as I can speak Chinese. I realise that there are extra steps to deal with when dealing with overseas guests but they seemed pretty clueless when I presented them with a permanent resident card and insisted on my passport instead. The fact there was no entry stamp in my passport as it is new confused them even more and I had to waste more time finding my old passport which luckily I had with me. I was then asked various questions concerning my travel history which in over a decade in China I have never been asked before and when I asked why they needed this information there was no definitive answer given. I also received a follow up call encouraging me to leave a review and to join their membership program, this is not expected and guests information should not be used for marketing. I expect that a manager will see this review and should note these concerns and speak to their reception team to...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel for about a week of business. I loved the features such as the lounge, being attached to a large shopping center. (This allowed shopping and many restaurants, without walking out in the rain. The entire staff took their job with much pride. The general manager and other managers of the hotel introduced themselves to me while I was eating breakfast and followed up on any concerns, besides making me award of some of the features in the hotel. Much of the staff was multilingual. Since I am English and know some French and even less Chinese, this was very helpful. (though some of the staff spoke other languages as well) They have an excellent health club and an indoor swimming pool, which I liked. The breakfast menu changed while I was there and both times the food was a great mix of East and West. The hotel was pretty new and was very clean.
Taxis are cheap and it is close to the train station, which helped with some of the meetings I had to go to.
The one thing I wish the hotel had was Massage, which I would enjoy at the end of the day. For the massage I had to go elsewhere, but it was OK.
I will be back to Shijiazhuang again and will definitely be staying at this...
Read moreI found my stay at the Shijiazhuang Central Holiday Inn to be exceptional and quite relaxing. The property quality is very high - new, clean, well-appointed. The bed, bathroom, television - they are all at least four-star quality. The pool is gorgeous, and the gym is small but new and inviting. The daily breakfast buffet has a lot on offer, and although the quality is not consistently excellent, it is all at the very least "good". I was also quite satisified with the perks of being a loyalty club member - the daily club lounge happy hour was surprisingly relaxing, the late check out was painless, the room upgrade welcome, and the check in process great also.
For me, this property could easly be a 4.5 star property with a couple extra details - better toiletries, a bluetooth-enabled speaker in-room, an even better pillow selection. Otherwise, this is certainly not the Holiday Inn you remember from being in the US. It's very much a near-luxury property. PS: the website says the property is walkable from the train station, but it most certainly is not. However, getting to and from the train station is pretty painless.
Thank you also to all of the smiling service staff. I had a...
