Dongshan Hotel — Hotel in Suzhou City

The hotel is located by the beautiful Taihu Lake with magnificent views from various points. We did not go down as the sun was scorching but the drive through was pleasant. We were greeted at the door by the concierge who duly took our bags. The guest relationship manager Xu Ting escorted us to our upgraded room and explained to us some of the functions available. The new Diecui block which we stayed was refurbished in 2016. Our room came with automatic curtains and plated toilet glass which can be switched on and off. The room also came with a full sized fridge, huge bathroom and a 4 seater sofa. Only gripe was that the bathtub and rain shower did not work as it should. Only cold water came out of the bathtub, and the shower head doesn't work. Rain shower cannot be switched on too. Seemed to me they are just there as aesthetics.||Service was excellent. The housekeeping staff came over to offer us some drinks and fruits, and checked if our toddler needed a toilet seat. The restaurant staff too were really nice throughout the 4 meals that we had there. The breakfast was not too bad. Not quite a lot of variety but the taste was pretty good. The Danish was the best I had for this trip.. Crisp and fluffy crust. Lunch/dinner service also served good food, you should try their local white prawns and fish while u are there. ||Diecui block has direct access to the arcade and foot reflexology place. I spent two days at the hotel and was impressed with its natural beauty and location. Since I was with an infant, they courteously provided me with a cot in the room. All amenities were functional and up to the mark for an international traveler. The room was spacious and offered a stunning view of the Taihu Lake and a Carp pond.||||With a team of helpful staff, some of whom spoke fluent English, we had absolutely no reasons to complain.||||The other special mention I would like to make is of the quality of sleep. I can't recall sleeping so soundly in a long time. It definitely had something to do with the kind of mattress.||||The one challenge that we did face was getting enough vegetarian options or Western cuisine. While the expectations were realistic, what could have been done is to extend some additional benefits such as making curd / yogurt available for all meals, and so on. This hotel is located in a scenic area on the outskirt of Suzhou, so many rooms have a nice view. The rooms are clean and spacious, each with its own router for Wi-Fi access. The facilities are very nice. There is a lot of staff in the lobby waiting to serve you, and the bar has room for a large group to gather.
