I stayed at standard room at Oversea hotel from 12th to 16 of Feb. Actually I booked this hotel from 12th to 14th only. I am impressive about the ancient pavilions, lotus pond and traditional Chinese garden presentation. When I checked in, I heard the old fashioned Chinese music in the lobby. The price I got it from Chinese website was RMB 288 per night. Spring in Suzhou likes a Winter in Sydney however it is not windy like here.||The room is spacious and clean with two beds. One of the house keeping staff was very helpful. She provided me power extension board for recharging because my shaver plug had a problem with plugging in the wall mounted socket. She is the friendliest hotel staff I have seen in China. ||Then I noticed that toilet was not flushing. I had to call reception for fixing the toilet. The drinking water provided in the room has a hot and cold system like office. The problem was it was switched off by house keeping staff when they did daily cleaning. When I came back from sight seeing I have no hot water for drinking tea. No kettle supplied so I have to ask the flask from staff. At night, it was a bit cold. ||In Restaurant, English menu is available. However the price are not reasonable. Breakfast is not bad. I could have both continental and oriental with variety of food. ||In the business room, I can use for Internet for sending emails however speed was so slow and hard to enter the english website. Six RMB for one hour Internet access charged. Because of the very slow connection, I log gout before the one hour limit reached.||The location is convenient for Tiger hills, Lingering garden and Beisi pagoda. However it is far from railway station, silk musem and ancient town of Mudu. Reception is fairly efficient when I checked in. However they made error for my checked out date one night earlier and disabled my magnetic access card. For getting the access, I needed to go back to reception for activating my access card again. Only one staff speak English when I was there.||This hotel is reasonable and comfortable although it is not the western standard. Reception staff need more training for check in/ check out accuracy. High speed broadband Internet required for business room. Room inspection needed to fix the toilet before the guest checked in. I do not mind about staying there again. However I wish they will have some improvements in...
Read moreThe entrance to the hotel is very inviting once you go through the "entrance" because it opens on to a beautiful pond with zigzagging paths, plants and pavillions - a mini Suzhou garden. The hotel is very clean and well maintained. My room had all the amenities you like in a very good hotel. Breakfast is included and I found the chinese buffet very good for my health and appetite. I was the only non-chinese staying there as far as I could see but the staff bent over backwards to help me even though there was a definite language barrier. Despite that, they always helped me find what I wanted.|Only drawbacks - internet use in room is expensive if you only want to check emails - 25 yuan per day, even though I only need 10 -20 mins. And if you can't get a taxi late at night, the walk back from the old city (where I tended to eat and drink) is a long, long walk. Optimistically, it helped me work off the evening meal and drink - food in...
Read moreI recently stayed at Suzhou Overseas Chinese Hotel, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The room had a strong cigarette odor that lingered, posing a serious issue for my family member with asthma, who nearly had an exacerbation. Beyond the air quality, the room's condition was subpar. The bathtub was rusted, the ceiling bore water leak stains, and the furniture was not only old but visibly dirty. The absence of a refrigerator, despite there being a cabinet meant for one, was also inconvenient. Most concerning, however, was the electrical socket that had fallen out, posing a serious risk of electric shock—a major safety hazard that should not be overlooked. For a hotel of this standard, I expected much better upkeep. I sincerely hope management addresses these issues to ensure a cleaner, safer, and more comfortable stay for...
