Renaissance Suzhou Taihu is a great weekend escape from busy Shanghai. Even on a full holiday weekend, the hotel still felt peaceful and spacious (except during breakfast). The staff we encountered were all very accommodating. The Marriott property is next door and on a cold night, they offered to bring us in their vehicle the short distance without our request. We ate at 2 restaurants and ordered room service and all were satisfactory. There was one restaurant with zero English menu that made it a little harder to order. There is an extensive recreation area that is good for a hotel in an area with limited nighttime activities. They offered bowling, movie, pool, etc (for a fee) that is great to pass some time. Again, even with a full hotel, we were easily able to play pool without waiting too long for a table. The best part is the bike rentals. They are free and great bicycles that allowed us to go for 7hours across the bridges and around the island. The staff was helpful in guiding me through their map on the best route. As a Titanium member, it is a bit disappointing when an upgrade is not possible, but this hotel is an exception The standard room is still fantastic! The layout and the balcony were superb and I was not disappointed. The pool is a little noisy. The changing rooms/bathroom for the pool area was quite messy - towels and slipper thrown all over the floor. The jacuzzi was not filled and the sauna/steam room were also not ready to go when I visited mid-day. Another thing to note is that their lounge closed two years ago. I booked this after reading great reviews about the Lounge and was disappointed to hear it is no longer around. I wish they had provided an alternative for Platinum+ members at the R Bar - whether they are drink vouchers or time at the R Bar for Happy Hour. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this property and Taihu. Renaissance does a great job in making it a relaxing atmosphere. I have already been recommending it to friends and would definitely...
Read moreI am writing this review with a very mixed feeling.|The reason I give a three out of five due to their very extreme performance. You have some very warm staff on one hand, and very unprofessional ones on the other hand. The hardware of the hotel looks nice. And yet with a lot of problems, to give some example of my stay: |- Some of the staff are willing to take the time and listen to our need|- Some of the staff were quick in responding to our need|- The business lunch was always serve according to our request|- Rooms were clean|On the other hand:|- They actually conducted construction less than a minute walking distance from our meeting room, without even informing us about it. And the wood chips and dust were flying all over the place, including our snack. |After our initial complaint, they try to talk their way out of it, hoping we will get by. Only after a number of complaints from our team, including some lifetime Platinum, then the manager agree to do something.|- Understand China is very much into high tech, their restaurant even uses WeChat barcodes to access their menu. Unfortunately, as a foreigner I don’t have WeChat. Can you imagine a restaurant with high star ranking from China, and serve food with an average price of $40-$70 per dish, they expect the customer to go online and order food like in McDonalds, coming now|- For the three days I stayed in the hotel, my room light turn off completely ever 75 minutes, and the room was not designed with timer or sensor, and they can not fix it, although they mentioned I can change a room the next day, and it was only talk, and no action, can anyone imagine in the evening suddenly your room lights shuts off by itself time...
Read moreOur family decided to stay at this brand new luxury hotel in Suzhou Taihu for one night in December and it was fantastic!||||Staff members were very accommodating and helpful, ranging from check in, executive lounge and game rooms. Special mention goes to Avril (same Chinese name as me) for her dedicated service throughout check in to check out. A nice little tent was even provided to my daughter which she absolutely loved!||||This hotel also contains the largest range of gaming facilities that I have seen, including movie theatre, indoor & outdoor pool, pool/snooker room, mahjong room, table tennis, kids lego area and even VR room. Great fun for families that likes to enjoy hotel facilities.||||Hotel is relatively empty during non-holiday weekdays, but quite full during weekends and holidays. We had to use the linked Marriott's executive lounge at night, which the hotel offers complimentary to and from transit by car.||||Recommended for non-local tourists to hire a car and drive to the hotel. The linked island over the Taihu Bridge where all the attractions are contains close to no taxi and infrequent public transport during non-holiday and non-weekend periods.||||I would definitely return to this Hotel if I wanted to visit Taihu in Suzhou again...
