Suzhou Marriott Hotel — Hotel in Suzhou City

Suzhou Marriott is conveniently located at the central of Suzhou. It is close to major tourist attractions. We stayed at Suzhou Marriott during the Spring Festival of 2024, a very busy tourist season for Suzhou. Most of the Suzhou attractions are within 5km from the hotel, making it a short taxi ride away. Moreover, Suzhou Marriott is reachable via bus to many of the major tourist attractions. This makes the hotel particular favorable during busy season, as it eliminates the need to wait/compete for taxi at the tourist attractions (during peak crowd, it might be difficult to secure a taxi, plus, the taxi has a hard time to reach the pick-up point). Because Suzhou buses are allocated their own bus lane, the bus can usually match the speed of taxi when they are travelling the same route. ||We visited during a very busy time of Suzhou Marriott, and the hotel is completely sold out, even with all rollaway beds. We felt that the hotel staffs did a good job in managing the crowd, and did their best to give a good experience to all the guests. ||We are Marriott Platinum Elite, and checked-in at the executive lounge. We were lucky to be upgraded to a one-bedroom suite. The suite is spacious, with a full bedroom (with a king size bed plus a sofa), and a living room (with desk and another sofa). There is a full bathroom with a hot tub and shower stall. Unfortunately, the room only has one toilet. ||The breakfast buffet is served at the 1st floor Asian taste restaurant. The buffet includes fresh squeezed juice (daily special, e.g., apple + pear), freshly made noodle and wonton, hot dishes (such as bean curd, braised beef). A novelty item is Suzhou style DIY sticky rice roll, in which you will use sticky rice and other ingredient to make a sticky rice roll yourself. The sticky rice roll is pretty popular among the guests. ||The executive lounge opened from 11am to 11pm (it is locked during other hours), and the lounge is access controlled by an assistant, rather than using card access. There is an afternoon tea service around 2:30pm-4:30pm, and an evening meal from 5:30pm-7:30pm. During our visit, the executive lounge is very busy during the evening hour, especially during the beginning of the evening meal, with all tables occupied by the guests. The lounge staffs then attempt to asked the guest to wait in their room, and they are phoned when a table became available. We were turned away one evening, and waited about 30 minutes before we were called to the lounge. We felt that this is a satisfactory system to make sure that all guests are satisfactory served. We did notice that during this busy time, the evening meal hour of the lounge is extended to accommodate all guests. ||The Suzhou Marriott boosts a swimming pool at the 3rd floor of the hotel. The pool is about 5ft high at one end, and about 3.5ft at the other end. There is a whirl pool in the swimming pool and in the changing room. You are required to have swim suite and swim cap to access the pool. ||Overall, we found that the Suzhou Marriott to be a fairly priced hotel with great location and excellent staffs. This hotel is my “officially designated” place to stay every time I visit Suzhou for the following reasons:|- Genuinely caring staff. The good performance yardstick for most hospitality workers will stop at being “friendly”, mostly superficial friendly smiles. Few would really do anything above and beyond to be compassionate towards guests and genuinely caring about their wellbeing. I believe I’ve seen the staff of this hotel has demonstrated that spirit. Case in point: after hours of cross-pacific flight my back was totally ruined and walked with limp. A staff member working at the door spotted that and immediately checked with me and then worked with the manager on duty to provide a pain relief lotion. The traditional Chinese lotion magically relieved my pain!|- The room interior design and furnishings are top touch among 5-star hotels - I knew that because I used to travel 50% of the time around the world and just checked out from a top brand 5-star hotel in Guangzhou. The room is very spacious, the bathroom is so ergonomic and esthetically appealing. The mattresses are very comfortable and the beddings are of top quality, which made feel at home.|- Location. I booked 2 room with confirmation # 89881615 with my rewards points, but when I checked in, I was told that I only booked 1 room. So I had to purchase additional points onsite and made another reservation with another 10,000 points.

When I got in my room and checked my records, I found I did book 2 room, so I actually paid for 3 rooms. I called the front desk and told them they're mistaken, and I was told I need to call the help line by myself to fix the issue.

After I insisted, the front desk agreed to handle this issue, not me. He told me that the problem is fixed and my points will be credited back to me in one week.

I check the system today and found that the extra room is canceled, but my points are NOT credited back!!

Never had such bad experience!

Also, I had to ask for my platinum gift because no one mentioned during the check-in, and made couple calls to follow up to get them...
