One of the only two "international" type hotels in Gaomi. I give it an average rating based upon local hotels in China, not by any international standard. I work up here so have stayed here many times. ||||The room is comfortable enough, actually the bed is pretty nice. Plenty roomy by any standard. In the summer it seems the air conditioning doesn't work. I hear a fan blowing but no cool air and the room thermostat appears to do nothing even though I push it all the way down to 15C! This happens in every room I have stayed in though I know of others who haven't had this problem. Calls to the front desk weren't helpful. Someone came to check but whatever they might have done was ineffective. In the winter the room is probably too warm but that's typical with centrally heated NE China.||||Thoughtful touch is the floor attendant leaves me a hand written note in English. Usually noting they see I am a reader so they give me some bookmarks. one time they thought I was a smoker and left throat lozenges. Speaking of smoking, I asked for a non-smoking room. Was given a smoking room but the floor attendant stopped by and said "didn't I want a no-smoking room?". I said yes so she came in the room, picked up the ashtray and matches and put them in a drawer and said "ok, no smoking room"! typical Tier 88 China. Always gets a laugh when I share this story. In fact, every room has ash trays and matches. Non-smoking rooms they are in the drawer.||||The only place to eat is a buffet....plenty of choice if you like local food but definitely not fine cuisine and very tiresome after one time. It's the same stuff every night (and lunch)....all you can drink local beer (Immaculate....it's worse than Budweiser) and local wine which is completely undrinkable. Breakfast is pretty much the previous night's left over buffet but with eggs done in several different ways. At least they finally started serving real (wretched) coffee instead of 3in1 instant. Bread products are typical Asian style and often stale. Interestingly enough the attached dining/meeting hall has excellent cuisine considering this is a very small city.||||Finally added a fitness center that is only attended in the afternoon/evening but fortunately left unlocked for us morning exercisers. There's a lobby bar that appears to be always unattended. The only place to get a cold beer (no ala carte food/beverage in the dining room) is on the "executive" floor.||||I've stayed at the Fengdu and I can assure you that this is the best...

Read moreIf you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods in China. This is the best hotel to stay in the area. It's a typical Chinese hotel interior and exterior, standard room layout. Room is quite large actually. What set them apart are the staffs. From front desk to house cleaning, everyone was helpful and courteous. ||Restaurant wise, there is one that serves buffet which I've never tried so cannot comment on that. The other is typical Chinese serving seafood and local dishes. Food is decent but nothing to brag about. ||Good western food is hard to find in China let along in Gaomi. However we recently found this little restaurant call Miss Song 5 minutes drive west of the hotel on same avenue. This place is a gem. We dine there four nights of our week long stay. Miss Song is very talented and brought in freshest ingredients. On our 3rd night, she even made dishes per our special request. Seafood risotto, clam white wine pasta, duck breast and Japanese cheesecake.|This place is on SE corner of Kangcheng street and Jiankang street. Can look it up in...
