Hilton Wenchang — Hotel in Wenchang City

The place is falling apart and dilapidated with signs of no to poor investment. ||||Before I write about the property itself, if you are a Hilton member with diamond or gold status, do not expect your benefits to be honored here. Booking two rooms under a diamond and gold member accounts, breakfast was declined as free. The executive lounge is not open. They have an happy hour with 2 drinks on the menu and a beer, no real food offerings besides some left over pastries from breakfast, that is even though the property lists an executive lounge that is open on the Hilton website. The staff claimed the lounge is closed because of COVID, yet there are no COVID restrictions in place here and no cases at all. Furthermore, the lounge upon walking by looks like it hasn't been opened in many years. ||||All the outdoor pools are closed as has been reported by other guests. The sole onsite restaurant is disgustingly dirty, see photos. The only pro is the beach is somewhat nice but it doesn't belong to Hilton therefore there's quite a bit of trash lying around. You can just as easily book a nearby cheaper hotel or apartment. ||||The breakfast is worse than most Hamptons in China. Though the scale of the breakfast area makes it look like it serves a lot but the offering and food quality isn't much better if not entirely worse than a 2 or 3 star hotel.||||I can't say this is the worst Hilton I've been at in terms of overall property quality, sadly there' a few below it, but it is definitely the worst I've ever been treated at by the staff. Generally Hilton's have been extremely kind and caring, but here you get treated like a pest. ||||There isn't much else around the property in walking distance, so if you are not driving, this is not the place to come to. ||||Wifi doesn't work, make sure you have a good data plan. Very large hotel with hundreds of rooms. ||Rooms are air conditioned, but because the rooms are so big, the air conditioning is ineffective. The beds are also too big. Way bigger than a king and bigger than super king, you need a mobile phone to speak to your partner who is in the same bed!||There two or three restaurants which are not open all the time. The main one is in the same room as the breakfast. Breakfast is buffet style and they have a lot of Chinese stuff, and a bit of bread and stuff, but not cheese or cooked meats. They do have English type of breakfast, however quality is low standard. Coffee is watery but they have one machine which is nice if you can speak mandarin, or get them to understand what you want.||Staff are polite and helpful. They don’t speak much English, but you can probably get across your message if you are patient.||You need a car or a taxi to get to this hotel. It’s a long way from a railway line or airport. It took a car about 90 minutes to get to the airport from the hotel.||Fridge in the room is not cold but they will bring ice for free if you want it, be careful about opening windows or you will get mosquitoes in and they will bite you.||The beach is about ten minutes walk and quite pleasant.
