Shangri-La Hotel, Wenzhou — Hotel in Wenzhou

Stayed here for 3 nights. Rooms are standard Shangri-La rooms, dated but spacious. We had a club floor room overlooking the river. The view from the room is great.||Breakfast is at the restaurant is one of the worst Shangri-La breakfast. The restaurant looks rundown, tired and definitely needs refurbishment. I personally feel that it’s very poor management. We arrived at the restaurant before 9am and food at the buffet are mostly gone. No one bothers to check the buffet line. Chefs are busy chatting among themselves. A few servers are clearing tables. Management staff are no where to be seen. ||The breakfast selections are not appetising nor interesting. Poor food quality.||There were minimal selections of fresh fruit. I cannot believe they even serve canned fruits at a five star establishment. The glasses of juice were pre- poured at the juice bar. I can see some of the juice probably being there a long time since the pulp and juice are already separated. Makes me wonder if it’s even hygienic to drink since it was left exposed so long. The drink label was wrongly placed. There were particles all over the table that looks like sugar or salt that no one bothers to wipe it clean. ||On my second breakfast. I saw the staff at the juice bar cut the fruits with his bare hands and placed it in the juicer. After he served the juice, he went to clean the table with his bare hands and then returned to the juice bar to continue with the juice. I was too shocked and left breakfast immediately. ||The club floor breakfast looks much better. The food and fruits are better presented. ||Overall it’s an average to poor experience. The running of the breakfast venue has improved per my observation based on the review by Yvonne in Dec 2024. Food varieties were plentiful and some were signature Wenzhou dishes. Servers were prompt in clearing empty plates and they cleaned the table thoroughly, thumbs up! However, there were rooms for improvements on front desk operation, room maintenance and housekeeping. There shall be more than one reception on duty during evening rush hours as there was only one reception during my check in and I had waited for 5 minutes. Reception honoured my request to a non smoking room on high floor facing the river and she was courteous and efficient. Shower door in Room 2020 could not close completely causing water seepage to the floor. A food dropping was found adjacent to the wall near the window implying floor vacuuming was not...

The hotel is next to the International Convention Center and this is around 15 minutes by taxi to the city center. And not much else around. We could not find a restaurant within walking distance. However, that was a lot of activity and was told that the hotel is very popular with weddings. I had the river view and the room was spacious and clean. But there was just a lingering smell like the carpets needed a good clean. The service was average. I did not want the buffet breakfast was could not order ala carte and had to return to my room to order room service. Dinner at the cafe was average. The menu looked very much like it came from Singapore. It was not a bad stay but felt more 4 than 5 stars.
