西安金花豪生国际大酒店 — Hotel in Xi'an

Had a short four night stay (checking out this morning) - was allocated room 915 with a great view of the South Gate and wall - imposing in the day - brilliant at night.||||My review this time relates to the inhouse service during my stay.||||The Concierge and bell hops helped at all times during my stay..always smiling - their limited English was definitely better than my limited Mandarin. ||||The reception staff were efficient and welcoming - only hiccup was a request for a RMB 2,000 deposit although I had prepaid, with breakfast, via my local travel agency in Hangzhou.||||This was sorted to a RMB 500 deposit which was just enough to cover my incidentals.||||I'd reckon a deposit of RMB 1,000 would be practical if you are staying approx seven days.||||The buffet breakfast in Cafe 21 is good...plenty of choices - I enjoyed freshly cooked omelettes each morning - well done again to the omelette chefs.||||I also enjoyed one evening meal from their "a la carte menu".||||For Halloween last night there was a special buffet - I invited my local friend to enjoy the spooky decorations and absolutely creepy desserts - it was fun.||||Dined two nights at the Golden Dynasty Chinese restaurant on 2F - nice menu choices - enjoyed the spicy crispy chicken snack and the mushroom soup in particular.||||When the waitresses and I had any trouble with communications we went to our translator apps -this created a few laughs - I did order Tsing Tao Beer which is Qingdao Pijiu in Mandarin - and had it cold "Bing"... if you want a cold beer just ask for "bing Qingdao Pijiu" ..it won me.||||The room was the same size as in my first review - large, comfortable and quiet.||||It is affordable at around AUD$105 inc breakfast and wifi.||||If you like the South Gate area and want easy accessibility to nearby malls, metro and the main attractions inside the wall - this...

I would have given them 4 stars but their advertising consistently claims there is a swimming pool and there isn't, other than the small reflecting pool with koi in the lobby- I can't swim in 6" of water. The breakfast buffet was not the extravagance of some hotels but it was fine with both western and Asian choices - the omelet guy is hidden in the back area. We tried the lunch buffet and room service - my daughter claims the room service pasta (40rmb - $6US) was as good as what she had in Italy (not, but decent) buffet had lots of choice and was about US $10. AC worked fine and we were there for a heat wave (110F/43.3C) the day we arrived. Rooms are attractive generic Asian upscale hotel, in a gold theme, though some of the carpets are stained and should be refitted. Beds are not the rock hard slabs of some Chinese hotels, but firm and comfortable. Desk staff have minimal English considering the number of western guests. If you leave at the crack of dawn they provide a boxed breakfast. Location is great, just outside the south wall- the famous art street, Shu Yuan Men (Ancient Culture Street) is just inside the wall and to the right, along with the Beilin Stele Museum, access to the top of the wall, and subway to the city center all with in a few minutes walk via the underpasses that enable you to cross without sudden death. Subway has a hooded entrance, pedestrian underpass does not- and they are NOT connected. If you go south behind the hotel you are in a real neighborhood with small shops, markets etc. My husband got a 10rmb (about US $1.50) haircut. If you are in the front traffic noise is noticeable but not all night long, sidewalks roll up about 10pm. There is a small convenience store right behind the hotel for water and snacks. Taxi to the city center/Muslim Market/ Bell & Drum Towers is about 8-12rmb...

Zwecks Eheschließung hat es uns 3 Tage nach Xi'an gebracht. Da das Shangri La und Kempinski alles andere als zentral liegen, blieb uns nur Howard Johnson oder das Ramada. Leider haben wir uns für das erste entschieden. ||Nach der üblichen 1,5 Stunden China Eastern Verspätung kamen wir um 21:30 Uhr im Hotel aus Shanghai an. Das Portier-Team hat sich redlich Mühe gegeben uns rauchend dabei zu zu schauen, wir wir unsere Koffer aus dem Taxi wuchteten. Glücklicherweise war die Schiebetür elektrisch, sonst hätte man vlt. noch die Tür aufhalten müssen...||An der Rezeption ein verlorener Azubi, des Englischen nicht mächtig. Da meine Begleitung chinesisch war, bereitete das keine weiteren Probleme, was man vom einchecken nicht behaupten kann. Unterbrochen von einem Drangvoller wurde ich etwas ungehalten und verlangte eines erst einmal zu beenden bevor man sich dem nächsten zuwendet. Quittiert mit einem arroganten Schnalzen wurde dies auch getan. Im Zimmer angekommen fühlte ich mich nach Bitterfeld 1988 zurück versetzt. Nichtraucher gebucht, Schwarzwälder Räucherstube bekommen. Also die Rezeption angerufen, ein Nichtraucherzimmer verlangt und für RMB 100 upgegradet. Der einzige Unterschied zum Studio war, dass man hier noch mehr Platz hatte hässliche Möbelstücke in noch hässlicheren Farben unter zu bekommen. Aber, es war sauber.||Am nächsten Morgen ohne Frühstück gleich zum Standesamt, trotz Regens. Im Regelfall bedient man sich in China ja eines Taxis, doch das erwies sich hier zur Rush Hour als unmöglich. Taxen vor dem Hotel warteten nur auf Kunden zum Flughafen und die Portiers taten (wieder) nicht das geringste uns zu unterstützen. Selbst nach intervenieren des Supervisors stellte man sich lustlos 5 Minuten an die Straße, bis man ergebnislos aufgab und sich wieder dem Zigarettenkonsum hingab. Glücklicherweise fanden wir einen einsichtigen Hotelgast der sich bereit erklärte uns auf dem Weg zum Flughafen an unserem Ziel abzusetzen.||Am Abend wollten wir das Buffet in Anspruch nehmen, was auch ohne weiteres möglich war. Hatten wir vorher gewusst wie das Essen dort zubereitet wird, hätten wir davon wohl abgesehen. Prinzipiell war der Room Service vom Essen her qualitativ am besten und die Gerichte im Restaurant am schlechtesten. Grotesk, verhält es sich doch eigentlich stets andersherum.||Das - nennen wir es mal - Gym spottetet jeder Beschreibung. Auf einem dicken Teppich stehen 8 Geräte von den die Hälfte beschädigt ist. Gleich neben an 2 Billardtische bei denen gerne und viel geraucht wird.||Die Umgebung des Hotels ist zentral neben der Stadtmauer, jedoch garantiert die nächsten 2 Jahre durch Bauarbeiten absolut nicht empfehlenswert. Basierend auf Erfahrungen aus anderen Städten würde ich sagen fängt man bald damit an, dort eine Hochstraße zu bauen und dann möchte ich um nichts in der Welt dort unter kommen. Nebenbei, Xi'an selbst bekommt einen Metro im September '11 und die hat es dringendst nötig.||Im Hotel selber wirbt man übrigens noch mit seinem 5* Standard, vor allem auf chinesisch.
