The hotel front reception staff seemed very tense up when we arrived. There's an argument between a mainland chinese guest and hotel reception staff, a plump chinese reception girl over the guest's hotel deposit and stay. It was quite loud. Think they treated their own mainland guests a little rougher with louder voices as we also got a far bit of this attitude from the plump chinee girl at reception who was loud to us at first as we are chinese but chinese located outside China and from an English speaking Asian country. As we have a poor command in Mandarin, the reception girl Simin, who can speak some English helped us with the booking. She was friendly. Think this hotel staff is more friendly to the foreigners. The hotel is located in front of Bell Tower which is at the centre of the city. The room is nicely decorated with cartoon and stuff toys as it is a family room. Breakfast were mediocre with cold porridge and a little selection. Perhaps, this is the way of life of the local eat. Unfortunately, the toilet got clogged twice, perhaps due to it's an old hotel. The heater ventilation was good and powerful for the winter night unlike other hotel located nearby with no heater and with very cold room during...
Read moreThe hotel itself was nice - rooms were big and clean, beds were comfy. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly. The location couldn't have been better - right across from the beautiful bell tower, a short walk to Muslim Street, the drum tower, and the wall that we rode bikes on. Across the street there were plenty of places to get a quick bite to eat and if you like shopping - well, this is the place! Even the metro stop is just a short walk away and we took it back from the Goose Pagoda and to the train station. Very easy! The only bad part was the noise. We were facing the street on only the second floor, but there was traffic noise until quite late and then again early. Worse than that, however, was the pumping music coming from somewhere. I never figured out where it was coming from (there was a night club about half a block down, maybe . . .) but it went on until 4 a.m. on Saturday night/Sunday morning. We had a noise machine but it wasn't loud enough to cover the noise. I would recommend the hotel, but maybe stay in a higher room that faces the...
Read moreThis hotel is well situated for local site visiting. the hotel itself is a little tired but still okay. we had to pull our own luggage around as we found the concierge's all over China were very unhelpful to non Chinese tourists. We were given a nice room that looked out over the bell tower which is illuminated at night. Just watching the traffic was great entertainment as there appears to be no rules. Windows were very good and the sound was minimal at night. Room service was good and the rooms were well looked after. Our only moan if you like is the local tourist still smoke in the designated No Smoking areas and staff do nothing to prevent it. A ten minute walk from the hotel via the tunnels under the tower round about are the street markets and some amazing people and food. We went both day and night it was a great experience and one not to miss when in Xian. We got some great bargains in the markets and...
