Excellent hotel, especially given its brilliant location in the walled city (with views of the Drum Tower) and its very reasonable prices. So reasonable in fact that we splashed out on a corner suite (which cost under $100/night) and got the best one on the top floor!|One star deduction for the fact that when we entered our suite, it smelled heavily of cigarette smoke (this seemed to improve after we left a window open and used the A/C, although it is possible that we just got used to it after a couple of days…)|The hotel has another few quirks: Going up in the glass lift, the corridors look like floors in a prison ward. The layout of our suite (not surprising given its strange triangular shape) was a bit peculiar, with the bathroom behind the bedroom. The area, being part of the walled city, is very lively and noisy until at least 1am and I’d hate to think what the noise level would have been on any of the lower floors. The breakfast room felt a bit “plasticky” and we didn’t come across anybody with even basic English language skills at reception. |Having said all that, we really enjoyed our stay. The suite had all mod cons and we actually liked its slightly strange shape and great view. The location, in walking distance of the Drum Tower and Muslim Quarter, couldn’t have been better. The breakfast buffet was perfectly adequate. Would...
Read moreThe hotel is ideally located, 1 block south of the Drum Tower. It is near a subway line and a major intersection with many buses, and walking distance to the Drum and Bell Towers, the south gate of the City Walls, and an adorable little street with bars and live music (Defu Alley). My room was clean and comfortable. The front desk staff is significantly more helpful than the concierge who seemed to know almost nothing and could not even book a tourist trip to the Terracotta Army for me. Ask the front desk if you have any questions or need a street map. The included breakfast was not superb, but pretty good. There is a shuttle to the airport for 30 yuan from Hotel Melody around the corner - you can book it at their front desk ahead of time. It leaves every hour and is the best way to get to the airport. I had taken a taxi from the airport, and it cost 150-180 yuan. Make sure to write down the name and address of the hotel in Chinese - very few people in Xi'an speak...
Read moreThis hotel was the best in my entire travel through China. The bed is super comfortable, the rooms smell nice. The entire hotel gives off a Downtown Brooklyn vibe. ||Pros++|The staff is super friendly. They try to accommodate you which in China is very hard to come by. |The coffee is actually good, so is the breakfast. |At the time I stayed there I got a 20% discount at their bar next door.|The hotel is located in the middle of everything. Safe and easy to venture out at night. |You get a nice souvenir after check out. ||Cons- -|1hr or so from the airport. |There’s NO FRIDGE in the rooms which is awkward. |No safes, to keep your valuables in. |If you leave anything behind after checking out; too bad because they won’t inform you, won’t understand and...
