I initially booked a 2 night stay in the property through Agoda. I enjoyed my stay so much I extended for another night, and returned for another when I came back to Xi’an. Location was very convenient, walking distance to the Muslim Quarter, Bell and Drum towers, and within 5 mins walk to Zhong lou subway station. There was a convenience store nearby too. I stayed in both the 4 bed dormitory room, and the private room with a garden view. The dormitory room was clean. There were curtains for privacy at the very comfy beds, and lockers for our items. There was water, light and some power sockets in each bed. Toiletries provided in the toilet, and amenities like towel, slippers and comb were in the locker. The private room was great, with a projector, and I liked sitting on the soft tatami surrounding the bed.
Breakfast was available at the lounge, and the staff were friendly and proactive in taking our coffee orders. The service of the staff was excellent. They were courteous and very willing to help. They gave advice on the attractions, how to get around, and places to eat and shop. When I was in the lounge, the staff would follow up with me on my day or if I have been to their recommendations. If this matters, I do speak Mandarin, but I have heard the staff assist English speaking guests too. They went out of their way to accommodate me when my flight got delayed and I needed to store my baggage and a space to do my work. Amazing hospitality, their service was one of the main highlights of my stay in Xi’an. 谢谢! ...
Read moreSimply an incredible hostel. I’ve been to almost 40 countries across every continent staying almost exclusively in hostels, and this is the best value for money accomm I’ve experienced.
Great location near all the happening city sights but far enough away to be peaceful at all times, very friendly and helpful staff with really decent English ability in comparison to anywhere else in China (even most of the tourist spots) who are happy to help plan your activities, clean and modern facilities including electronic locker, rainwater head shower with incredible water pressure and hipster cafe style decor throughout the building.
Included solid all you can eat breakfast with lots of standard options (mostly continental, some local), free snacks of all kinds where you can try plenty of Chinese treats and still eat some fruit for health, included daily coffee made from an actual machine (easily the best one I’ve had in China), annnd one included cocktail per night? Wow.
It’s not the most social in the lounge area as many of the guests are in groups, but you’ll be put as a solo traveller with other solo travellers in a room so it’s easy to make friends still.
I probably sound like I work for them, but if you’re considering booking elsewhere, seriously go find something blunt preferably not terracotta warrior sized, hit yourself in the head with it, then book your stay...
Read moreI strongly recommend this hotel. My review is long, so hang in there. I'm not going to post a picture of the room I was in simply because you really get what you see. It's simply exquisite. The contrast between the hotel and its location is interesting. Also, I arrived at the reception with a problem that the lovely young Rachel fixed immediately with a warm smile. She's not the only lovely and helpful person there, they all are. The pure lines of the hotel are soothing and relaxing. A small "garden" takes up a portion of the "outdoor" eating area. The main hall is where breakfast is served. After the breakfast buffet, another buffet of free fruits and snacks is offered to the guests. As for the room, it's really a haven of peace and quiet (in my case at least). The only noise heard was that of the occasional guests in the corridor. The toilet seat is heated, the pillows fluffy and the bed very comfortable. There's no TV in the room, but there's a projector with access to paid programs. I personally believe that Hantang Inn would be close to perfect if only for the cleaning/dusting of the room. I reported this to one of the employees at the reception, but it seems that the messages didn't get through due to my broken Chinese. I really wish the management would take this matter into account. It would make the stay there for people with allergies much more...
