PuSu Jade Boutique Hotel — Hotel in Xi'an

Were it not for the noise problems this hotel would be ok for the price. We booked because they offer a family room with a king and twin beds for our 8 and 6 year olds (hard to find in China). But what family wants to stay in a room located immediately above a bar that has amplified live music performances? ||On the first of our two nights the noise wasn’t that bad - the kind of background bar noise you might expect from a cheap city centre hotel and from reading the reviews. But on the second night (Friday) the singer started at about 10.15pm. Earplugs made no difference. The hotel management were sympathetic (it’s clearly not the first time they’ve had complaints) but held little sway over the haughty bar manageress. Eventually, faced with a fat tourist in his underpants (I exaggerate slightly, it was November so I had dressed) shouting outside her bar, and who clearly had no intention of leaving until peace broke out, the “talent” called it a night, so we could too. ||Otherwise, beds were comfortable (despite an inconveniently positioned electric blanket control), breakfast was missable (there are great baozi a short walk on the junction to the northwest), the double room only had an internal window (to the corridor!) and the hotel insisted on opening the external window every day despite us calling them down to help us close it each evening (it required a key if we weren’t to rip the insect screen). One of the shower heads lay in pieces on the floor, ignored by housekeeping (presumably too busy opening windows). And if you lose a key card (it was in the room somewhere, but we left in a hurry after the previous late night) they want ¥50.||So we wouldn’t return and we wouldn’t recommend it. If you’re already committed, ask for a higher floor room (and hold out for it) - in our experience this is more important than...

First slight problem is taxis do not appear to be able to find it and can’t drive down the lane when market is on.from the outside we did wonder what on earth we had booked....but ....the rooms are lovely especially those on top floor. Large with very modern bathrooms. All spotless. The Xi’an city wall is literally right in front of the hotel so you won’t get a view other than of ancient bricks but when in Xian why would you be spending time there! The staff are young and their English is very limited but they were friendly and as helpful as they could be.||The breakfast was really a let down if you don’t want Chinese food, There were fried eggs and white bread to toast only the toaster didn’t always work. The coffee wasn’t great. However it is very good value all things considered and you can walk to the South Gate in a few minutes and other sites are also walkable. The road it is on is very busy and noisy at night as it us full of bars and youth hostels but if you are not bothered by noise at night then this will not be a problem and if you get top floor room you don’t hear much.
