Book early for best rates. Book a Horizon Club room which gives you access to the Horizon lounge. This gives you snack type food / drinks ( tea, coffee, soft drinks) available all day from breakfast plus a hot evening meal ( buffet style) and a 2 hour happy hour ( 6-8pm) so wine & even a glass of champagne. Makes it superb value for money as Xi’an is more of an industrial city with tourists there mainly for the historical sites, rather than eating out . Pool is large ( take a swim cap as this is a requirement in many China indoor pools), gym is huge and room was plush and comfortable with nice toiletries/ robes etc. It’s not that close to the city walls but taxis are cheap and plentiful especially if you can download the DiDi app ( like Uber). Foreigners need to have their passport with them to access many sites such as the Terracotta Warriors & the city wall so don’t forget it. Get to Terracotta Warriors just before it opens before the many tour buses when it’s then gets so packed you won’t see much inside the halls. It’s about a 50 minute taxi ride from the centre to the Warriors but still fairly cheap. A guide is useful for getting you in quickly and explaining the history and they are at the entrance. The bronze chariots are in a separate museum to the warriors and they have shuttle buses to get there. You need to pay cash for this ( 30 RMB) so make sure you have some cash as this caught out a few people. Other highlight in Xi’an is The Great Mosque, it’s not on many maps but it is just around the corner from the Drum Pagoda. Look for the signage and the adorned walls to get you to the ticket office. The city wall has many access gates so you can walk or hire a bike for either a long or short distance. There are a few vendor stalls on it for refreshments and toilets. There is no real shade, it’s fairly flat and has some audio commentary at various points. The Guangren Temple is also...
Read moreI already lost count of how many times I had come to Xi'An and stayed at Shangri-la for my business trips. Xi'An had changed vastly but one thing never changed; The hospitality of Shangri-la.
Despite the many 5 stars hotels that had sprung up in Xi'An over the last few years, Shangri-la Xi'An is still the choice of my stays. The main reasons are not just the facilities of the hotel but also the thoughtful and warm services provided by the staff making it Indeed a home away from home. This is extremely touching to people who travel around often as I.
Among the many employees, I would like to point out and commend the following staffs for their excellent and professional service!
Yi Cafe Carina Zhang Lucy He Nancy
Lobby Lounge Angel Any Gao Camila Lucky Nancy Dong Sally Yang
Tian Xiang Ge Liza
GRO Angel Angela Yin Alisa Wei
Their services are undeniably impressive. Giving the already exhausted and cold travelled body a feeling of warmth and rechargings.
Especially Lucy He. I was deeply impressed by her meticulous and caring services which try to make the guests as comfortable and happy in every possible way. Small details such as where the guests like to sit at, of getting the usual drink ready without the guest asking and checking on the well being of the guests when she noticed the guests is not feeling well. This truly shows her dedications to her job and cares for the guests. Although the selection of food items in the cafe had not changed much, she and her team's service makes me looking forward to going to Yi Cafe for breakfast every morning. She is undoubtedly a gem among the hotel staff. A great role model for all the hotel staff!
Oh almost forgot, my kudos to the room cleaning and laundry team! I felt as if my mum is taking care of...
Read moreThis is my third visit but the place still feel very exquisite, love the facilities and amenity Shangri-la provides especially the gym which was kept very clean and well maintain.
Understand that Shangri-La hotel need to host events to keep with currency time to time, unfortunately for me i did not had any good night sleep for the first two weeks of my stay due to increase number of guest moving around and slamming the door multiple times every night. Shangri-La need to work on their soundproof internally. I'm glad that Shangri-La is now a smoke free campus but the staff need to be firm with this policy, on my first night stay i had an encounter with a bunch of smoker directly opposite my room called the front desk to send security personnel up to due with the smokers and to enforce the policy but 5 mins after the phone call i was told that there is nothing they can do and i was advised to change room to another level.
Despite the bad experience on the first day, visit to Yi Cafe for breakfast every morning make me feel like home. The staff are very professional on handing large crowd during event days, place are kept clean, food replenish without any delays. Could see that the staff are a bit short handed on time to time but Lucy at Yi Cafe managed the staff very well she was very patient in handling guest demand and request. appreciate that after a few days of visiting Lucy remember my breakfast habit, the same beverage is served everyday which i didn even have to ask for it. Sadly three times here but the menu stays the same, breakfast is good but the spread need to change! i strongly recommend Yi Cafe to at least change the menu every week. Eating the same thing for 4 whole weeks makes me almost don't want to go down to...
