Sofitel Xian On Renmin Square — Hotel in Xi'an

Sofitel Xian On Renmin Square is a hotel located in a historic area in the center of Xian. This area also includes the famous Sofitel Legend Peoples Grand Hotel Xian and Grand Mercure Xian Renmin Square. Even though it's in the city center, the place is quiet and full of trees.

From the hotel, it’s easy to get to many popular tourist spots like the Drum Tower and Bell Tower.

The hotel lobby is big and elegant. The staff are friendly, always smiling, and give great service. The manager welcomed us warmly, and check-in was fast. Our room was upgraded to a Prestige Suite, which has a separate bedroom and living room. The room is a bit old, but still very nice and comfortable.

All the staff were helpful and tried their best to assist us, even if some don’t speak English very well. We could still feel their kindness and willingness to help — especially Joanna Sia Miao and Will, who gave excellent service.

Breakfast is served at the Azur Restaurant on the lobby floor. There’s a wide variety of food, including local Chinese dishes, eggs, bakery items, fruits, and freshly made noodles with different types to choose from. If you book a room with breakfast included, it’s very worth it because it gives you good energy to explore Xian during the day.

In the evening, the Executive Lounge offers light dinner and drinks during cocktail hours. The food is enough to replace dinner, and there are many drink choices — beer, red wine, white wine, sparkling wine, and cocktails. The staff there are also very nice and friendly, making the place feel cozy and relaxing — almost like home.

If you are looking for a hotel that’s worth the price, has great service, a peaceful atmosphere, and is located in the city center, we highly recommend Sofitel Xian On...

This was the second hotel that we stayed in during our stay in China and it was a very good one.

The rooms where good, they where not the largest but still very clean and neat. My room had two double beds that were comfortable and allowed for a good, restful nights sleep (pillows are very soft although I am sure you can ask for a firmer one). The bathroom is good again, there is a bath tub with a walk in shower which is nice. My one concern is that the A/C is not powerful at all. In the other room it was broken and we had the room changed to a suite (although that was well handled by the hotel the new rooms A/C only worked in the bedroom and not the living room).

Breakfast is served in their all day dining restaurant and it was very good with a very wide range of options (Asia and Western) all of which where being made to fresh during the service. It was very enjoyable and a great start to the day. They also do a take away breakfast if you are leaving the hotel early for a flight.

The bar in the lobby is also very nice with a very good range of food and drinks all of which are served hot (bar the drinks they are cold!).

Again with this hotel, bar the check in staff, there was also a lack of English speaking staff. Once again you can overcome the English challenge but one does expect higher level of English competency in a 5 star hotel

We booked 2 rooms.When we arrive late at night, one of the rooms (2 single bed) was being cancelled which I do not understand what happened. So, we request them to give us a room, they said they got to find out what happened. But it was already near midnight. So, our tour guide told them to just find a room for us. We are given the last room of the level.When we checked into the room, there were insects flying around, which is bad. We did not feel comfortable but we have no choice as there were no other rooms.The next day we complained about the room and the hotel upgraded our room. Unfortunately, when we checked in late at night after our sightseeing, the door cannot be chained inside. we were asked to just lock the room without chaining, and they will repair tomorrow morning. We also realised that the toilet glass door was faulty. The glass door is only hooked from the top leaving the glass door very filmsy but we still can slide but got to be very careful. We complained the 3rd day morning on this concern and were told to change room again.My friend decided that we would not change room for the 2nd time again and so we just stayed with the filmsy toilet glass door till we checked out on 4th day. This is terrible experience for us. We hope that the hotel can do something about the rooms, especially the Suite rooms. This is the 1st time I met with such incident which can...
