Read moreWe, 2 adults and 2 kids from Germany living in Beijing, spent 5 nights in the Hotel in August 2020. From our point of view the hotel is not a real 5 star hotel but a good 4 star hotel. Worthwhile to mention is that the staff is very friendly and service minded in particular to foreign guests. We felt they gave us a special attention e.g. during the breakfast as we were the only foreigners in the hotel. |1) Rooms: We booked 2 standard rooms which were relatively big, clean and comfortable. The beds were comfortable too. AC worked very well and quiet. |2) Breakfast: Mainly chinese food, which is understandable as 99,9% guests are from China. It took us 2 days to „train“ the kitchen to make scrambled eggs with ham and tomato’s. We missed e.g cheese, bread & Bircher Müsli. Coffee was OK but not more. So breakfast was not 5 start hotel standard. |3) Pool: 5-7 minutes walk from our hotel room but we felt still ok. For adults the pool is good as you can swim on 4 lanes 25meters. For kids it is just boring. Water temperature was very enjoyable.|No real place to relax as located in the basement without windows. |4) Location: We liked it as we had our own driver with us to go to old town Xian which takes about 30min by car. Without own driver a bid more complicated. The area around the hotel is quite new/modern. Wide goose pagoda in walking distance. We found it a bid difficult to find a good restaurant a lot of low budget restaurants close by but not really what we were looking for. We can highly recommend the Restaurant Moon which is located 15min walking distance to the hotel offering very good Italien & Spanish food in good quality and for very reasonable prices offered in a nice atmosphere. In the evening we found the Main Street by far too busy did not really like it.|5) Service: Always very service minded and friendly staff. Management not visible... |6) Bar: A real catastrophe!!! We went there one evening and ordered Cocktails. The two lady’s behind the Bar were completely overstrained = It was a kind of „Youth research“ with terrible result. The drinks were not at all worth the money. |Another reason that we say it is not a real 5 star hotel. |7)Tang Café: Restaurant in the Hotel. We had 3 times dinner in the Tang Cafe. A La Card food OK and reasonable prices, we liked the Caesar salad. The kids liked the Burger and the Buffed which is offered from Thursday to Sunday...
Wow... what can we say. We arrived with 2 weary children (8 & 10) after a 5 hour train journey from Beijing and then a 50 minute taxi ride. The hotel couldn't have been more helpful.
We arrived at our sumptuous room with bunk beds that the kids adored, and were told that the children could participate in free activities including calligraphy, paper cutting, magic drawing, and learn about the tradition of Chinese tea ceremony at a time of our convenience. The children enjoyed their time with Bella Chang so much they didn't want to leave as she was so patient and attentive. The children kept telling us the experience was unforgettable.
During lunchtime we walked the 5 minutes through the pedestrian area to the intime shopping area ( level 3) to enjoy authentic Xi'an food (袁家村)。
The next day after a full day of terracotta warriors, temples and pagodas, the Children were tired but were so keen to do the tea making and calligraphy again that they asked reception and the amazing Angel Zhong this time worked with the kids and they loved every part again.
Later we were delighted to be invited to the VIP lounge on level 8 which we all loved. The variety of food available was not only visually pleasing but also delicious. Great view, relaxing music, attentive staff, can't asked for a better way to unwind. Angel came and presented the kids with amazing gifts (we were speechless) and made us feel so welcome by telling us about history, life and culture of Xian. We just casually told her it was our daughter's birthday tomorrow and we will be leaving for Shanghai. So her gift came just in time. Little do we know that she made the effort of delivering a birthday cake to our room later that evening. Our daughter was ecstatic. Both our kids were so touched by the kind gesture that they specifically instructed us to write good reviews to ensure their gratitude was expressed.
This is truly the best hotel we've stayed at and I've been travelling over 30 years. Can't speak highly enough of the staff, they are amazing. We will definitely be coming back. The hotel is amazing, the staff are brilliant, the food court in the shopping centre opposite is fantastic and in the evening they had a parade with columns of lights, people singing on stage, absolutely unforgettable. Thank you Wyndham...
