Before booking, please be aware that this is a 5 stars hotel according to Chinese standards, not to international ones.||||Half of the staff speaks no or lousy English (which is ok for me, as I speak Chinese, but it’s them who call themselves "international" after all). Just a few minutes ago I saw one of the waiters taking a noodle from the noodle buffet with his fingers and shoving it into his mouth (…). Yesterday one waitress brought me a cup of coffee to my table – today another one told me I should get it myself (although the restaurant was totally empty and she was just standing there having a private talk with her colleague). Very minimalistic selection of vegetarian food at the evening buffet. The iron first needs to be ordered to the room and then comes broken, losing water in any position you'll put it (and totally soaking my shirt before knowing this). Same 2 or 3 songs in permanent endless loop no matter when you go to the restaurant (makes me sick after a while). Shower curtain very dirty (or moldy? not sure). Breakfast tea is low quality tea from Nestea bags (nothing you’d expect in a 5 stars hotel in China). Absolutely frustrating WiFi (constant connection losses and requirements for re-entering log-in data).||||Some positive things: The room and the hotel are old (in an attractive way) and clean and from some of the rooms you have a nice view over the city. Xiamen is not as polluted as many other Chinese cities, so being able to enjoy the window view is something.||||However, if you want to relax after a hard day at work or plan a longer stay with your family, note that this is a 100 % Chinese, not an international hotel (e.g. like Marriot), so don't expect an equal quality - although it has 5 stars. The hotel is quite ok, but the many little, frustrating things sum up to one big hatred very quickly and definitely can...
Read moreThis place was a superb choice. All the staff tried to go that extra mile to help us enjoy our stay. We really felt like guests and not merely well serviced customers. The exceptionally well trained and motivated staff did their best to look after us.||||However a couple of minor very quibbles did emerge. The people eating in the hotel restaurants in the evening are a source of profit ... on expenses so convenience not value for money is the pull ... the buffet, though is superb should one want to eat , three days calories in one gargantuan gastronomic experience. but the a la carte options are severely limited in both range and quality ... the steak was impeccably served by skilled and pleasant staff but the meat was of low quality and the chips/french fries were cold so don't dine in unless you want the magnificent spread of the buffet,||||The breakfast buffet was also magnificent. The staff were superb and the black coffee was up to southern Italian Americano standard ... very good indeed. As well as a superb range of Chinese food one could get an English style breakfast of eggs.bacon, beans, sausage and toast! ... much to the bemusement of the staff. The salad options were remarkably good.||||A most enjoyable stay. Thoroughly recommended, due to the pleasant, friendly and helpful staff, who worked as a team to provide extra high levels of service, Oh and remember to pack your bathing cap to make use...
