Overall, we had a reasonable experience at the Xiamen Royal Victoria Hotel, but once we reminded ourselves that this was meant to be a 5 star hotel, its difficult to give it anymore than an 'average' rating;||||Positives:||||- The hotel is well-designed with unique and eye-catching Andalusian-style architecture.||The seaviews from the room balcony (if you face the right way) is quite picturesque and you may forget for a moment that you are in China.||||- The rooms are spacious with a king sized bed, large bathroom and an office desk. ||||- The hotel contains a well-equipped gym and a huge multi-laned swimming pool - the biggest I've ever seen at a hotel.||||Negatives:||||- The room was in need of some maintenance as evidenced by cracks and chipped tiles in the bedroom and bathroom. A luxury 5-star hotel should promptly deal with these problems.||||- There was noticeable dust on the floorboards, which suggest the cleaning job was less than satisfactory. ||||- Wi-fi connection was not consistent across the hotel. As soon as you stepped out of your room, you have more or less lost your connection which was very disappointing.||||- Whilst the gym was well-equipped, it was in a different building next to the hotel which can be inconvenient, especially when there isn't an easy passage back into the hotel.||||- Check-in, and especially check-out was unbelievably slow, despite there being little to no queue. Staff may require additional training on how to be more efficient.||||- Location isn't ideal for quick and easy access to the...
Read moreThis hotel is built adjacent to the seaside with very nice ocean view and very quiet & spacious. There are no shops / restaurants / convenient stores within walking distance so it is quite inconvenient. The hotel is so large that the local TV station filmed a famous hide and seek game show there. ||||Our ocean view deluxe room is also quite big and generally clean but 3 out of 5 lamps didn't work and required change of light bulbs when we first entered. This hotel is more like a local managed hotel and does not quite meet international standard.||||Breakfast here is sub-standard and nothing impressive. We didn't try their restaurants there for lunch or dinner so unsure if they are alright but from we don't think they have a very outstanding...
Read moreThe hotel is very spacious. The room was one of the largest I've ever stayed in and was reasonably well maintained. The bed and pillows were really comfortable. There were some issues. No reservation on arrival which could have been due to how my name was entered into their system. (Last name first e.g. ) or because I was part of a larger group registering at the same time. Many miscommunications around service e.g trying to get the fridge unlocked. Food in restaurant was ok but not huge variety from day to day. Service in General was well intentioned but rarely straight forward. The hotel is opposite the beach which was nice to be able to walk to and a taxi ride away from local restaurants and the main centre, all of which are very...
