Our group of 20 held a 5 day workshop at Wutai Mountain Marriott Hotel. From the first day that I contacted the hotel until the day that we left the hotel, Ms. Eva Yao of their Sales department had been assisting me every step of the way. She responded promptly to my emails, communicated in excellent written English, met us on the first day of arrival (despite a late arrival at night), assisted us when we had a problem with shortened stay and unexpected cancellations and also saw us off on the date of our departure. She is the epitome of service excellence and Marriott hotel is lucky to have her.||||Other staff members who assisted us at the Concierge, front desk, Chinese restaurant (Sue Su and other staff members) were also friendly and willing to help. We were impressed by the level of service exhibited by this hotel.||||The rooms were huge although we thought that the layout of the deluxe room can be further improved. Since the room size is large enough, it would have been better if there were 2 sinks in the bathroom. There was a huge bathtub in the middle of the room and sliding doors have to be pulled to close off the entire bathroom from the rest of the bedroom. ||||Other than that minor observation, the beds are comfortable and 4 bottles of water are provided everyday.||||The scenery around the hotel is breathtakingly beautiful and the air is fresh. Waking up early in the morning, one can just walk around the hotel to take in the refreshing scenery and enjoy the cool clean air.||||Breakfast consists of a wide selection of Chinese delicacies and some Western fare. The Chinese restaurant serves delicious food though it can be pricey.||||The hotel is about 15 to 20 minutes away (by car) from Wutai Mountain area. Having a car is a must. ||||This hotel is about the only 5 star international hotel in the whole of Wutai County. Will definitely go back or...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here after sightseeing in Shanghai and Beijing. We were looking forward to quiet country side and we were not disappointed. Mount Wutai is currently building up its tourism industry and the Marriott was established there to help with that. It's a fairly new hotel, opened for maybe 6 months. It is grand and will be even more stunning once it's fully complete. |From the minute we arrived, we were treated like royalty. The staff are amazingly helpful. Michael went above and beyond for us as we needed some help navigating getting back to the bus station when we were leaving. He answered every one of my questions and if he didn't know the answer, he found someone who did. I can not speak highly enough of him. He took care of booking an English speaking tour guide for us and this was not an easy task, as there aren't any English tourists really. Mount Wutai is mainly a Chinese tourist site. ||Since the hotel is newer, they are still completing some things thus the spa wasn't open and the villas aren't yet completed. The gym was done and was really really good. Our room was huge and very comfortable. Very clean hotel. Well on its way to being the resort it's trying to be. ||You can tell the staff have been trained by high quality people and are trying their best to make guests feel comfortable. Many of their younger staff members are learning English, so if you don't speak Mandarin, just be patient. ||The food at the hotel is good - we ate at the international restaurant and the Chinese restaurant. Both really good. Fair prices.||I would highly...
Read moreThis Marriott is a lovely retreat in a remote mountain location. As a Platinum Elite member, I was upgraded to a suite.
The hotel offers set meals at the Wu Tai Kitchen with options including a Cantonese seafood set and a Western selection for dinner. There is also an outsourced restaurant on the basement level (-1), but be aware that it is not affiliated with the hotel. We had a not great experience with the front desk girl at Wutai Kitchen, but it was resolved very quickly.
One issue on heating which is not very good, but it doesn’t really matter because we use comforters and it wasn’t very cold. And this is spring so if it is a winter, it would be very cold & might be an issue.
Service at the front desk could be improved, as none of the staff spoke basic English. Given that this is a Marriott property, at least one English speaking staff member should be available.
Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of fresh and delicious options.
Overall, if you’re visiting this area, I highly recommend staying here. The town is quite small, and this is one of the best accommodations available, ensuring a...
