Aloft Yancheng — Hotel in Yancheng City

I had high hopes for this place because it's a Starwood brand but it was not good, except for one high point which I will describe later. The lobby is uninvited and although check-in was easy, there was a mess of boxes and other junk piled behind the front desk. When I opened the door to my room, the first thing that jumped out at me was the carpet stained in two places with what looked like carpet glue! Other indications of really poor quality construction finish were evident in other parts of the room. Other than that it was clean and the front desk offered to move me but I was pressed for time and declined. The a/c controls are infuriating. ||||The fitness room was likewise kind of dingy and not inviting. I took one look and decided that I could miss a work-out that day. The breakfast buffet was OK, not great.||||The one truly high point was Eason, who worked the night shift at the front desk. I came in late with my colleague who was having some problems and Eason helped way above and beyond the normal call of duty. For him, I am truly appreciative. By the interior design of the rooms and the layout of the lobby, I think that the hotel aims to be a design hotel, though it is not there yet. I hope the hotel can keep improving it services, especially some small details. ||The location of the hotel is great, near many restaurants and a department store and it is quite easy to grab a taxi in front of the hotel. ||I would like to give some examples regarding what I said some details should be improved. The night I stayed at the hotel, the TV remote was not working; the weight scale ran out of battery; and toilet paper rool was almost runing out, but no spare rool in the restroom. All these small things made my stay not so pleasant. The check out time is 2pm, but when I went back to the room around 1pm, the key card did not work and I had to go to the front desk to refresh the key card. After I read all the review from tripadvisor, I still decided to give Aloft Yancheng a try as it is Starwood group hotel. I stay with no any expectation, however it is still really disappointed.||1) The lobby with no air conditioner in summer season.||2) The swimming pool is full with kids that from swimming class.||3) The hotel is in poor condition although it is build in 2013. Poor maintenance.||4) I request non-smoking room, although it is stated non-smoking room, but it still with smoking smell, and one mahjong table inside.||5) The carpet under mahjong table with a lot cigarette mark.||||It is really not up to any Starwood boutique and chics hotel.
