We picked this hotel because it looked clean, new and appeared to be central to the many attractions of Zhangjiajie. We made it a good base to our many visits to the national parks around the city but it is not as central as we would have liked.||Check in: For foreigners in July 2020 it will take longer to check into hotels because they require health codes and need to confirm China entry dates. The hotel's website advertises that they have multilingual staff but I think only have a couple English speaking staff at the hotel who are very pleasant while the rest will understandably shy away from foreigners. We were disappointed with the security guard who roughly handled our passports and folded pages while finding our last entry date and we could not communicate with him to be more careful. We also booked a king bed with mountain view and were advised at check in that the room did not exist. We instead got a double room and were fine with that.||Rooms: Really nice, clean and spacious. The showers offer great pressure and the beds are comfy. The air conditioning works great and there is a small coffee bar with a kettle and a couple bottles of water. These should be non-smoking rooms but there are ash tray stands in the hallways and there was an ash tray in the drawer of our first room.||Concierge/travel desk: The hotel advertises their desk which can help book attractions. The staff there were very distant with us, helped for a bit then told us they couldn't book anything for us until we had a covid test. We ended up finding our own busses and Didi rides to get to the attractions on our own and did not need covid tests but just our local health codes to enter. They seem to be friendlier if you know Chinese or are from mainland as we saw many smiling interactions. The manager on duty who spoke English did try to help but we felt it was a lost cause for us.||Breakfast/restaurant: the breakfast only offers Chinese food which is fine and we enjoyed the toast, tomato and eggs, watermelon and the many sweet steam buns. The seafood restaurant is advertised on the website and in the hotel's in room amenities book but is not open for another week as of the end of July 2020.||Location: Location is not great but it is fairly quiet. This hotel is about 15 km from the airport, 10 km from Tianmen Cable Car Station and 12 km from the popular restaurant areas in the city. There is not much around the hotel but there is two ok restaurants and two well stocked convenience stores just outside.||Staff: Other than the initial check in and the concierge/travel desk everyone seemed friendly enough and definitely tried to be helpful. We had troubles with our cancelled departing flight and they were very quick to arrange a second room for us so we could have another good night's rest!||The Didi address is:|Chinese: 张家界华美达酒店|English: Zhangjiajie Huameida Jiu Dian||They can also arrange airport or train pickup if you call in advance...
Read moreThe hotel was okay for a one night stay. But I do not recommend staying here. A local girl managed to figure out what floor my tour group was on. We received unsolicited calls from her offering us a massage. Prior to that, I believe the same girl was escorting a couple of foreign guys in the elevator. Also, the room was not well maintained, such as LED lights not being stuck well onto the wall, and shower appeared...
Read moreToilet failed to flush. Even worse, flushing stirred up the faeces instead of bringing a fresh layer of water. We came to hotel very late so we had no time to get problems rectified. Lifts (elevators) were very slow, also only 2 lifts to rooms. Breakfast was adequate. Had fire...
