The location is wonderful, we saw a whale from the restaurant when we arrived! The rooms are spacious and clean with big hammocks outside to chill in. We had a brilliant time, but that was down to us finding our own things to do eg trekking to waterfalls and swimming in the nearby river. ||Everything else was pretty bad. The reception staff are awful - very unprofessional. It took 4 women to work out each guest's bill, and their maths wasn't good. They're all as rude as one another on reception. The laundry lady and waiter was nice though. It's generally very overpriced, the most we paid anywhere in Colombia. The food is very basic, the same as you get everywhere in cheap restaurants or shacks. The soup starters were salty and clearly from a packet. They also have an obese dog... in England a dog that fat would get taken away for abuse. ||We booked through Booking and were treated as second class guests, others had a package. ||In the evening it was dead, we were playing cards and they switched the lights off on us! There isn't a bar or anything. We had to leave very early in the morning (but waited around for 45 mins) even though our flight wasn't until the afternoon as they said that was the only time we could get the boat. We had to pay £40000 for the boat and a further 10000 for the taxi to the airport which had been arranged. ||A load of old guys arrived on our second night and had bought rum which I think is a good idea. The staff were really friendly to them, maybe because they were Colombian. ||This hotel needs some life. A decent bar, some music, some more guests and most importantly good management and staff. ||Go to Playa Huina, it's lovely... but maybe...
Read moreBesides the whales and the tranquil surroundings, I have nothing good to say about this lodge.|Accept for one other guest there was no one there; we stayed in a huge empty hotel. A bit awkward. But this was nothing compared to the service we got: one of the girls looked SO bored that we were afraid to even ask her to buy a bottle of water. The staff speaks no English and does not make an effort to be understood. When my boyfriend at one time didn't understood her question in Spanish, she was just plain rude!|Electricity and thus wifi were a liability, which is not a real problem when out in nature, except when you have to catch a plane back and the card-machine doesn't work. We brought cash but didn't expect to pay a whopping amount of over a million pesos! We were almost late to arrive at the airport. |The meals are plain, but there is no alternative in town (no bars, no restaurant, no stores) so we had to eat there. |Me and my boyfriend still laugh about the bored face of the girl when she explained us the same menu everynight ("pescado, arroz...").|Would't stay here again if...
Read moreWe had a great time at Playa de Oro Lodge. The hotel is rustic, clean and in good condition. We had a room in one of the upper floors with a great view, the room was comfortable and the AC worked well. |The food was simple but nice. There was enough variety over the 3 nights we stayed. The service is good; the owners show care to ensure everyone is having a nice time. |The whale watching was the highlight, it was better than expected. We were able to see several groups of whales. |The hike to the Playa de los deseos was great and the beach on the other side was one of the most beautiful beaches we have been too, great waves. Juancho the guide was great, helping everyone on the walk and we learned from him more about the area.|The airport was a bit of a shock, hope they build the...
