This is a remote area that is very forested and, in fact, is a bird sanctuary. It is close to the town and recreational reservoir of Guatape but avoids the lights and noise of hotels in or closer to the town.
The first thing that will strike you is that each bungalow is 100% hand-constructed from bamboo. You can just sit in your room and observe the craftsmanship that went into each joint and corner.
This is a family run business by Don Jairo and Doña Adriana. Each morning, they offer a substantial breakfast on the patio of their house. They also offer room service that you can order from local restaurants.
All rooms have a basic kitchen (if you want to cook for yourself) and hammocks for relaxing. One room comes with a private heated jacuzzi--you can relax in the hot water while watching shooting stars and the Milky Way overhead.
They have an outdoor recreation area that has a jacuzzi and a swimming pool. They are both filled with water from a live stream that runs through the property.
They also have a beautiful hiking trail right on the property that is well marked with concrete pylons. If you prefer something a bit more challenging or of a longer duration, they can arrange a guided forest tours with local operators. These hikes can take you to a local wildlife preserve where you can swim in pools below live waterfalls.
They have several improvements in the works. They are building more cabins. They are also improving the big shared jacuzzi with a bigger better heater and an overhead cover. They are also building a second floor to the patio restaurant.
Overall this is a very relaxing place to spend your time. You will forget that there are other activities awaiting you in Guatape--like us, you may just decide it's better just to stay in the hammock and enjoy the sounds...
Read moreWith only 3 cabanas set apart in the lush jungle greenery and a 4th cabana on the way, it was easy to totally relax listening to nature. Our entrepreneurial hosts (owners Jairo and Adriana along with their English speaking helper Nicholas) were exceedingly warm and welcoming, offering anything to make our stay as pleasant as possible.||Each cabana had an outdoor cooking area (sink, propane 2 burner stovetop and kitchen supplies). Our cabana (named Marte) had 3 beds, a couch, a fridge and a downstairs covered section with 2 hammocks. The cabana across from us had a double bed, more inside living space and no hammocks. We didn't check out the 3rd one.||There isn't any wifi or heater, but there are lots of cozy blankets if it's cool. Although the cabanas were fully set up for self catering you could request that the hosts provide any meal of the day at either the patio of their home or your cabana. Breakfasts are included in your rate.||Logistics: Without an address it was difficult to find - it's about an 8-9 min car drive from downtown Guatape on your left side as you head toward San Rafael (longer for moto chiva). The entry gate sign said Villa Adriana (not Adriana's Bambu-Lodge as shown in Booking.com). It's important to let them know when you will be arriving. Each day Jairo will drive you into Guatape and the plentiful moto chivas...
Read moreWe booked Adrianas lodge for 3 nights, but while we were there we decided to stay another night in our tree bambu cabine. Because for us it is an oase of nature, silence, hospitality, care and good facilities. Guatape is a beautiful town, but to be honest we only went 1 afternoon because the surroundings of this place had the ideal curcumstances to relax. That was what we were looking for. We can recommend you the service of massage, jacuzzi and sauna (temazcal). We also had a lovely evening with the hosts by the bonfire. What made it special was the love and care (and good food) from Andres, Adriana and her husband. Bring some warm clothes for the...
