The guy managing the place Camilo has potential. Him, his mother Emma, and another administrator Alberto were kind in our interactions.
And that is where any pleasantness ends. I feel obligated to warn others not to spend their hard earned money here because it will also cost you a ton of money to get there any back
When I arrived i used my toilet and discovered it was broken and would not flush, when I followed up HOURS later I watched a member of the staff remove a part of the toilet and washed it in my bathroom sink, yup, the place I was supposed to brush my teeth. The toilet broke again making me unable to use my bathroom for hours and the shower was broken causing me to need to walk across the property to shower in a vacant room. They needed to be reminded about the shower almost a full day after I alerted them it was broken.
There was an ant infestation so severe that caused me to need to switch rooms. They were also conducting loud construction during one of the days of my stay.
The staff who run the hotel are rude and made me feel unwelcome, like I was bothering them asking for a menu or towel. The main staff member at the hotel (toilet guy) is so rude and unhelpful that if you need anything he gives you a blank stare or mumbles under his breath and walks away. While I was trying to enjoy the beach I asked them several times to turn off the music they were playing at the beach bar and they gave me a scowl like I was ruining THEIR vacation.
I know some Americans come To foreign countries expecting to be treated like royalty and that always made me uncomfortable. In fact I asked the staff to call me by my name rather than “señor” because I had intended to stay there for a bit and just wanted to be on familiar terms
It was at that moment I hit my limit. I paid my tab which came out to a miraculous $357. In Colombia, you would need to eat gourmet every meal for that much and I can assure you that the food here is anything but.
In addition, they had added a 10% tip for themselves which is inappropriate at best but took some real balls given the "service" they provided. As I was paying I told guests checking in about my stay to hopefully save them from a similar experience.
Camilo, the manager, and I spoke many times during my stay given the numerous issues and he offered to refund two of my 6 nights (after the music experience I decided to cut my stay short). I told him I would pay for my food and drink but I would not pay for the inhospitable conditions/treatment I had received. We did not come to an agreement.
I wanted a calm and relaxing experience and instead I was made to feel like an imposition and subjected to completely unhygienic...
Read moreQuiet paradise with friendly service. We used a driver and boat transfer (Christian) that was recommended by the hotel. All went smoothly and on time. Check in was easy and straight forward. We didn't know spanish so we used google translate most of the time.
The place itself is what you see in the photos. Our room was clean and air conditioned. Note: you are at a beach hotel so expect sand to be on floors. Water pressure is light but you will get that in all hotels on the island. Please respect water use as there isn't a lot on the island in general. Wi-fi was exceptional and would suit digital nomads. Reaches all the way to the beach!
The staff were outstanding. Andes, Neider and Alberto all were very helpful and accomodating. They were all busy tending to a lot of jobs but always able to help with smile.
Big shout out to the cooks who made every meal a tasty experience.
Make sure you do tours with Christian! He is able to provide any sort of tour you ask. The bioluminescent plankton evening tour is a must!
TIP: Do the National Aviary sanctuary which is on the way from Cartegena airport. It would be difficult and expensive from Baru island.
Note: we were there during week. We noticed parties starting from Friday sunset and still going on when we checked out Saturday morning.
Thank you to the team for making this an unforgettable experience and we would definitely want to come back with friends and...
Read moreWe stayed here three days, two nights. Superb! Beautiful beach. Plenty of loungers and chairs, on the beach and under the canopied area. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful -- able to recommend recreational activities and schedule excursions (fishing, snorkeling, whatever you like). Delicious meals were served in an outdoor main dining area. The grilled Caribbean Snook, sharable "trilogy" app, and other seafood were awesome. Wonderful cocktails -- on the beach, on our patio, in the hammocks, and in the outdoor lounging areas. Quiet atmosphere. Calm, warm waters. Be aware that the rooms, while very nice and clean, are part of natural setting; ants, flies, and a gecko visited us and water pressure was low. We had the Triple Room with Sea View -- and wow, the view was great, from inside and from our private patio! Also, I highly recommend doing the nighttime boat ride to swim in the bioluminescent waters nearby. The magical days here are made even more magical when the waters light up around you. That swimming area is thoughtfully set up in a way that we could venture into dark areas below the floating dock and get a marvelous experience during a full moon; although, we heard that the best way to see bioluminescence is when there's little light (eg no moon).
Highly...
