I stayed in this hostel for 2 nights and first I believe that 2 nights is probably too much. You can do a tour during one day so one night I believe is enough.

The location of this hostel is amazing however you will be paying big bucks to get here around 70,000 COP. I would recommend to try to negotiate a tuktuk instead of getting the hosts to drive you as its too expensive. I’d recommend a hotel/hostel closer to the entrance of the desert to save money on those transport costs- and a cheaper hostel at that.

Breakfast is included and is really fantastic I recommend it.

The bed was fantastic and the vibe was pretty remote and isolated which was amazing. The facilities were also quite good with lukewarm showers and decent toilets.

This hostel is literally 50m from the Grey Desert so you can explore the Grey Desert on your own to save money. I would only recommend paying for a Grey desert tour if you want some extra things explained to you although if you’re super budget you could do this on your own. I’m not sure it you can do red desert solo but the tour is pretty cool + you get to meet other travellers and for 10,000 COP you can swim in a pool which is cool.

If you want to do a tour of both deserts and the Magdalena river on a boat for 20 minutes - which is what was offered by the hostel for 200,000 COP, there’s a 160,000 COP alternative in NEIVA at The backpackers and travellers hostel which also included transport to the desert and back. I’d probably opt for this option which is the exact same tour next time to save a little money staying in the desert unless you absolutely really want to. (it is very beautiful )

How do you give more than five stars? Mirador Valle de la Tatacoa - it is one very sweet and special place. A hidden gem. The landscape, the kind and wonderful and special people. Jose and Lina. They are welcoming and so much more. I was so happy there. The beds very comfortable. Clean. And wow, can Lina cook! The views, the stars. The peace. The land. I am so happy I made the right choice to stay at this amazing place. And my words do not do this special spot justice. It is a home. And all the animals are lovingly cared for. And add to the ambiance. A huge thank you to Lina and Jose, whose gift to those of us lucky to have stayed with them...

Stayed at Mirador Valle hostel for 2 nights. Had an absolute blast thanks to Jose who greeted us with open arms and helped us with anything we needed. 1 double and 1 single bed with nice refreshing shower water (no hot water and ac) but fan was good enough.

Perfect location for all trails and swimming pool in desert. The grey desert is literally across the street and costs 3.00$ to enter. 15 min walk to the swimming pool which is an absolute refresh after the hike. Jose was able to drive us to red desert as well as pick us up. We paid him 100.00 for that and no entry fee...
