We stayed four nights and would happily return. Birds singing and quiet days and nights made us appreciate our choice to stay out of the town. This is a large property that slopes gradually downhill from the main building. It is connected by a long gradual stairway which would not be recommended for anyone with physical limitations. There are other ways to approach the building, but they also involve steps. ||The highlights:|Staff- very hospitable and efficient. Eduardo made several phone calls to schedule an excellent English tour guide for us to tour the archeological park. Cesár, the manager, was gracious and welcoming and the young man (I don’t know his name) who served us meals everyday was a wonderful complement to the staff. Our tour and rafting outings were excellent and we have confidence that they will place their guests with the best providers. |Meals- All menu items are made fresh- even soups. We really appreciated this aspect of the food service. You will wait a little longer than in a restaurant, but overall, we were very pleased with our meals. I highly recommend the trout. It was local and fresh and absolutely delicious. Coffee was the best we’ve had in Colombia. I wanted to buy some to take home but didn’t want to pack it for a month!||In response to older reviews that mention a lack of communication between the main building and the lodging building— There are now hand-held radios to communicate with the reception desk, should you have an emergency or other need. |There is a large parking area for those driving. ||Great place and...
Read moreAlthough a bit "rustic," the property is absolutely gorgeous. We were the only guests during our stay, so they upgraded us to a larger room with two floors. The breakfast was nice and fresh, so we ended up eating dinner there all three nights. Dinner is quite slow to be prepared, because all the dishes are made from scratch.||In addition, the owners pre-arranged a driver for us. On the first day, we visited the archeological park on our own. On the second day, their driver took us on a "circuit" tour to the out archeological sites, and the Magdelena River. When leaving, the same driver took us to the airport.||The hotel can call a taxi for you to go into town for about $2 - $3 USD, it's only about a 10 minute ride. We found it easy to find taxis to take us back, and the rate seems to be fixed. We found a big grocery store on the square where we bought fruit, and there is a cool coffee shop a few doors down from the grocery store, also on the square. They also have fruit smoothies.||Don't miss San Agustin, it was my favorite part of our trip...
Read moreI stayed in Hotel Huaka-Yo on February 9, 2020. I chose it because of the proximity to the Archeological Park. I went walking twice AS IT IS NEXT TO IT. The hotel have a great location in this regard. It has a huge lot of land so you feel you are immersed in nature. The building itself invites you to relax. The rooms are basic, but super clean and have hot water. I think the best of this hotel is the people that work there. Jefferson is the best receptionist - concierge I have ever met. He went all the way to assist me with the tour, transport, local information and always with a great attitude. Felipe was also ready to assist me when needed and with a great smile. And the women who cook at the restaurant cooked such great food, both breakfast, and dinner. If you stay there, I recommend you dine in. I had a wonderful steak dinner and wine. For breakfast, they have good options and everything is fresh and with great taste. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay there again, but this time, to spend more time just...
