I recently spent four unforgettable days at Hospedaje La Ceiba, and it was one of the most magical travel experiences I’ve ever had. From beginning to end, every aspect of my stay exceeded my expectations.
The hospitality provided by Yamile, Elizabeth, and Susana was extraordinary. Their daily meals offered a delicious and authentic taste of the local cuisine, and their attention to detail in maintaining our rooms was incredible. Each day, we returned to spotless accommodations and fresh linens—a true testament to their dedication and care.
What truly set this trip apart were the thoughtfully organized tours, making every moment of the experience seamless and memorable. Some of the highlights included: Visiting an indigenous community in Peru – Spotting numerous sloths 🦥 in the trees was an awe-inspiring moment. Exploring Puerto Nariño – Swimming alongside pink dolphins 🐬 was an absolutely surreal experience that will stay with me forever. A thrilling night hike through the forest – We encountered a fascinating array of insects and even spotted tarantulas 🕷️, making for an exhilarating adventure. A visit to Fundación Maikuchiga – Learning about their incredible conservation work in rehabilitating monkeys 🐒 rescued from the black market was deeply moving. Dolphin sightseeing on the Amazon River – We navigated to dolphin hotspots, marveling at both rare pink and gray dolphins. The experience ended with a stunning sunset and, in our case, a magical rainbow—a memory I’ll treasure for years.
Each activity gave us an opportunity to connect deeply with the Amazon's culture, wildlife, and natural beauty, leaving us both enriched and inspired.
I also want to extend my gratitude to the incredible guides—Leo, Julio, Jose, Yeremy, Ramiro, and Mr. Annibal—whose expertise and enthusiasm truly brought every excursion to life. Their storytelling and knowledge made each journey more immersive and memorable.
While I noticed some reviews mention concerns about noise, this wasn’t an issue for me. Staying in an indigenous community means embracing the vibrant and authentic sounds of daily life. I found this to be part of the charm, and the locals were warm, welcoming, and grateful for our visit. Tourism clearly plays a vital role in their growth and development, and it felt great to contribute.
In summary, Hospedaje La Ceiba offers an authentic, unique, and heartfelt experience that I would recommend to anyone planning a trip to the Amazon. It was truly unforgettable, and I already look forward to returning one day. A huge thank you to everyone who made my stay so...
Read moreMy experience at La Ceiba itself was positive, but I have to reduce the rating because of very poor communication in the days leading up to my reservation.
Basically, one of the owners Maria stopped responding in the middle of our conversation about the boat transportation the day before I was set to arrive. I sent follow up messages that night, the morning of my flight to Leticia, and the afternoon. I arrive in Leticia and still nothing. I called as well and no answer. At this point, I go to the ticket vendors myself to buy a ticket and the boat, the last one for the day, is already full. I proceed to spend an hour frantically walking to the boat dock, inquiring about a private boat (would be ~$150 and way over my budget), calling La Ceiba a couple more times to no answer. Finally I decided to buy a ticket for the first boat the following morning and spend the night in Leticia, which was overall fine but just very frustrating in the moment.
Luckily when I got there, I pushed on Manuel to reduce my price from four nights to three, though it took 20 minutes of arguing in Spanish (not my native language) and back and forth with Maria on the phone. At first they were only saying they would reduce by 16K for some reason, but with more arguing I got them to properly reduce it by 25%. If they hadn’t done this, I definitely would have rated it 1 star, so I’m appreciative that we worked it out.
The most frustrating part however was that it turns out many people on my flight were heading to La Ceiba and the hotel actually chartered a private boat, but absolutely no one told me about this.
Aside from this situation, I enjoyed my time in the Amazons and at La Ceiba. Note that it is located in a pretty established little town so there is some noise, and it’s not as remote as other options...
