Reception does not receive you properly or escort you to the jetty to tell you which boat goes to Ctg. We stayed at El Barco Room which was nice, but upon entering the room had no windows you can properly open for ventilation. At time the room felt muggy and with the condensation did not help. The only bit of ventilation we had was the bathroom space being open on the ceiling. Be mindful as electricity is shut off here from 8AM-9AM and also during noon. Also, signs should be posted to alert other room guests to stay in their section to utilize their hammocks and quite time as we had rude/inconsiderate guests that were using our hammock. The daybeds and poorly tossed around the property with no shade and messy. The staff members that work there seem like they don't want to be there at all. In addition, we noticed that whenever a guest was finished drinking or eating something and left the cups/glasses on the tables, it wasn't removed promptly. I hated walking through congregating of employees in which you had to pass in between them wearing your bikini as a woman that made me very uncomfortable. First day on the beach too, we had about 6 male employees again sitting at the beach watching us and I wasn't comfortable. I also hated not knowing who was working on the property. A lot of men were wandering the property in working plain clothes and not clothing identifying that they work for the hotel. Safety is one of my main concerns when traveling and being 2 hours away from mainland, this property made me feel a little unsafe with the lack of identification of people working there. Not having WIFI was also a big issue regarding safety. Wifi only works in front of the reception area and that was it. FOOD! The chef is horrible!!! Terrible chef and bartenders were not great with drinks. Every drink was watered down! We stuck to beers afterwards. The chef is lazy and the property cheap with food! We did the all inclusive 3 course meal and we wish we didn't. First day we got rice, salad and fish for lunch. My friend had an allergic reaction to the fish and luckily we had medication. Dinner we had rice and chicken/pork chop with salad. Breakfast following day we asked for Arepa con Huevo. We were informed that we had to order this item in advance!! How hard is it to fry an arepa con huevo?? Again for lunch it was the same as the prior day and they served my friend TILAPIA! because of her allergic reaction to the King Fish. You're telling me we came all the way from Stateside to eat Tilapia?! I don't even eat Tilapia at home and this is a freshwater fish so you're telling me they couldn't get a snapper or make some conchs? Dinner was overcooked pasta with a red sauce and again raw chicken and proposed Tilapia. We informed the staff that the food was horrible and opted for an arepa con huevo. We were told they would have to charge A LA CARTE PRICES for shrimp, conchs, squid. What an absolute shame because we were in the deep blue waters to catch some amazing seafood to incorporate it into their menu but off course the hotel wants to cut cost. You're bettter off going to the small town in the back where they serve you amazing fresh seafood at a great price or the Isla Mucura Hotel next door. Disgusting food and the hotel should be ashamed of themselves for serving Tilapia. On my last day which was day 3, I asked for fresh pool towel as I used mine to wipe the condensation from the floor in my bedroom. I was informed I couldn't have another towel with no reason. Like I've mention, the customer service at this hotel is in the gutter. Staff members barely smile with the exception of the recption. The access to the water from the property was great and just jumping in with ease was worth half of what I paid. I felt like the space was a bit overwhelming with the boardwalk and utilization of space as mentioned with the daybeds are poor. Unfortunately I would not return here and will make my way to Hotel Isla Mucura as I did a walk through of their grounds and it seems very well kept, activities, music, customer service...

Read moreHaving landed on Isla Mucura without a reservation, we looked at all the hostels near the port, and decided the area was too noisy and with all the garbage and debris in the port, not particularly hygenic, either. More by accident than by design we ended up speaking with a gardener at the Murcura Club Hotel--they don't even have a public entrance, unless you come by boat. Once inside, we saw that maintenance left much to be desired, which is a pity, since the location is quite stunning, and they could have a very nice ambiance. There were hardly any other guests, yet the "best deal" they could offer us was a very poorly appointed room (no safe, no lamps, plastic table, lots of ants, no door on the bathroom, etc.) for USD 100, which included dinner and breakfast, the former quite low quality. The only positive was that it was relatively clean and the whole place fairly quiet. After paying, we found a much better option just next door, with bungalows at US $20 less expensive!...
