Finca Cuipo — Hotel in Magdalena

Helmut and Fiona’s little oasis in the jungle was stunning and absolutely perfect for our trip! It was by far and away our favorite place we stayed. They have truly embraced the meaning of a B&B and when you stay with them you feel warmly welcomed into their life. They have three beautiful private bungalows to rent, each with tons of storage, a gorgeous patio, and your own bathroom and outdoor shower. We loved every minute of our stay and had the best meals of our trip there! We are big foodies and Helmut and Fiona’s meals were 10/10 for every breakfast and lunch. The hummingbirds at breakfast and the beautiful sunsets before dinner didn’t hurt either. Things to note while you’re there- plan to be back before 6pm because it is up a large hill that you can walk or get a cheap moto taxi, but it’s best not to do that in the dark. You could easily just relax by their pool every day, but we hired a driver who is a family friend of theirs named Miguel who was very reliable and fairly priced. Miguel took us to Minca (1.5 hrs), the Flamingo Santuary (1.5hrs), and offered to take us to a tubing close by or to the stunning Costeño beach (10-20 mins). Fiona and Helmuts Finca is absolutely beautiful. My girlfriend and I stayed here for the first few days of our trip to Colombia and it didn’t disappoint at all. Our cabin had the most amazing view of the jungle and ocean, it was so therapeutic just to swing on the hammock and watch a sunrise or sunset in such beautiful surroundings. Showering outdoors never felt so good and at times the water was quite warm due to the hot weather but even when not, it still felt refreshing. The bed is super comfy and I love the double sink. Fiona and Helmut were great hosts and helped us with so many different things on our trip, they are so knowledgeable and had great suggestions for us. The food they prepare (Kelly also) was so tasty and I loved every meal. You can tell Helmut has a real passion for cooking. The location of the Finca is quite high up a dirt track type of hill as stated and easiest way to get around would be by a 4x4 or a motorbike, we hired a motorbike and it made it a lot easier. Even before arriving, I was exchanging emails with Fiona back and forth regarding local tours and transportation. She was absolutely thorough, patient and a huge source of information to help guide us through planning. When we met Fiona and Helmut it felt like meeting old friends! Their finca is lush, homey and absolutely stunning. It is a retreat into the mountains with the opportunity to disconnect and be with nature but with all your needs and comfort met. The walk to the cabin will get your heart pumping but once you are settled inside you will notice the cabins are thoughtful and minimalist with everything you could possibly need. The outdoor shower with the privacy of lush greenery, the most comfortable hammock on the private balcony, and a dip in the pool and take in the view were just a few of my many highlights!
