Pictures just don't do Monte Verde justice. My husband and I spent four nights of our two week trip in Colombia this January at Monte Verde and could not have been happier or more impressed by the beauty and convenience of the location, comfort of the hotel and kindness of the staff, especially Leo, who was wonderful, helped us with everything, and even drove us to the entrance of Tayrona early in the morning. It's worth mentioning that we were considering staying inside Tayrona as many travelers and backpackers recommend, but after much deliberation looking at different options online, we decided to stay just outside the park, at Monte Verde, just a 3-5 minute drive from the El Zaino entrance. When we hiked to Cabo San Juan and saw the numerous rows of tents lined up one after another next to a busy restaurant full of tourists, we absolutely knew we made the right choice to stay outside the park and just re-enter each day we were there. Monte Verde is the perfect place to stay, relax after long days of hiking and exploring, and enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of the Tayrona area. It exceeded all of our expectations and offered real jungle magic with its stunning views, lush and vibrant garden with all kinds of beautiful plants and flowers, and gorgeous and private treehouse room, where we stayed. The room is about 10 meters up high in a solid, beautiful Caracoli tree, completely open-air but very private with a flushing toilet, no-fuss shower, and thatched roof, so that it feels comfortable and luxurious, and also like a once-in-a-lifetime (or more if you go back!) experience. We woke up in our bed every morning with the sun and the chorus of birds, and opened our eyes to the lush green mountain valley. It was like a dream. The bed itself was not very comfortable, but that's really the only thing I can think of that should be improved. Breakfast was simple and delicious - coffee, fresh fruit, fresh juice, and different menu options. The best part was being able to enjoy it on the spacious terrace overlooking the garden, clean and sparkling pool, and the green mountains across the valley. It was clear that the staff takes great care of the space and deeply values the comfort of guests. I injured my foot while hiking on our last day and Leo kindly brought me ice and made sure that I had everything I needed to feel better. He was very knowledgeable about Tayrona and other things to do in the area, and also introduced us to Monte Verde's two resident parrots who then visited us several times at breakfast. I wish that we could have stayed longer at Monte Verde and absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for comfort, peace, kindness, magic, and a truly unique experience in the middle of the trees, with very easy access to Tayrona. Muchas gracias a todos de...
Read moreI have travelled through Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Europe and this is the best place I have stayed hands down. ||Everything about Monte Verde is amazing. From the moment our cab pulled up Christian was there to greet us and take our bags. The grounds are beautifully kept, overlooking the jungle. The pool is really cold which is so refreshing and kept extremely clean. ||Christian checked us in early as our room was ready, and by our surprise we had a treehouse!! It was incredible, it was like staying somewhere in a movie! We couldn’t believe it with the cost. Christian kindly carried our bags up the stairs, we even had a bathroom with a shower up there! ||One thing to point is the treehouse is very open without a door but we felt really safe throughout our stay and the trees give you lots of privacy. When we were back down in the communal areas you couldn’t even notice there was a treehouse up there. ||Christian organised us an hour full body massage for 70,000 and it was the best my detailed massage we have had, it was perfect after spending 4 days in the lost city! ||We had both lunch and dinner at the hostel which were all delicious- I recommend the chicken pasta and salmon! For breakfast we were actually given an option which is rare when included. The chef cooked us up fresh cheese and ham omelettes, we had a side of fruit, a fruit juice and hot drink. ||We are so sad we had only booked one day at Monte Verde. Christian and all his staff are incredible and provide a high class service. ||We 100%...
Read moreThank goodness I ignored the mediocre reviews. This place is so lovely that I have extended my stay from two to three nights. My room is great, spacious with a huge superking bed and lovely ensuite bathroom. The communal areas are tastefully decorated. Everything is spotlessly clean. |The owners could not be more helpful or eager to please. They offer free rides to the park entrance (3 mins in the car and local bus available to return - COP 2,000). Today I will be driven to a place to change money to pay for tonight’s room (NB cash only everywhere in this area). They greet me every time Weser one another - we’re on first name terms. |The food is delicious. I had fish with shrimp sauce twice it was so good. They make everything to order, so it is all totally fresh. They make great fruit smoothies too that are perfect after a day’s hiking. |I simply can’t fault this hotel. I feel like those mediocre reviews were of a different establishment. “On a budget”?? At around COP 125,000pn, this is quite high by Colombian standards yet a great deal...
