We booked 2 nights in a private room. The location of the hostel is nice for the view, however it is very far away from Minca and the only possibility to get there is by 4x4 or motorbikes. By motorbike it is the cheapest way (a round $ 40.000 COP per person at night) but the trip takes 45 minutes.
The hostel is composed of 2 places close to each other. Sierra Minca 2 is however still in construction. We would have preferred to stay there since it was much quieter. In the other one, the shared bathrooms are old and were unfortunately not clean. There were no window so that you could see and eventually be seen from the outside which is a bit disturbing. Without window it’s impossible to shower at night since all insects get in.
Breakfast was included in the room rate, there were different options as well as for lunch and dinner. The hostel proposes vegetarian options. Don’t expect a restaurant, the hostel is in the mountains, so they don’t have everything. If you want snacks and so, you should bring it. No WIFI available !!! It’s nice to disconnect and enjoy the stay there.
The only thing we didn’t like is that it was very loud at night, even though the music was turned off at 00am. It was more a party hostel for very young people than a...
Read moreHiked from el centro and stayed the night to take in the sunrise. Thats what I would recommend. The views are truly outstanding. Helpful friendly staff. Darwin, the receptionist and Mitch who was working the kitchen made me feel welcome and so did other guests (many Colombians). I know some folks have posted dislike about the steep day visit fee. 60000 COP that includes a legit steak (churrasco) lunch. You can stay and enjoy the pool, eat lunch, play pool, chill in their spaces, have a delicious coffee for 5000 COP (at the sede 2 cafe, also friendly) and cleanup before heading back. I believe this is worth the price AND if they did not do this, it would likely be overrun with tourists. Negative reviews seem to be mostly from those who opted NOT to do it. I don’t think you will regret the experience if you come with an...
Read moreI'm not sure ever the target market for this place is but it wasn't for me. Most of the staff in are in their early 20's and don't seem to understand their jobs. I say this, because, for example, I planned to stay two weeks, and I asked ahead about the wifi, because I need to work. This simple question turned into a three day discussion and I started to get the impression I was annoying them. Do you know what an easier way to handle this would have been? Just say - no, we don't have wifi, like, Jesus Christ it's not difficult. The food took 90 minutes because no one had a system, the toilets are absolutely disgusting and even though I booked a private room, I had to share with 7 others (I'm ok with that but the ceiling is about 30cm from the beds. The views are absolutely amazing, stunning, but the service is...
