HOTEL CAMPESTRE LA GAITANA — Hotel in Nimaima

Hotel Campestre La Gaitana is about 1 km south of the small pueblo of Tobia, Cundimarca. It has over 30 rooms and their literature reads they can host events in their conference room, etc. They have a restaurant on site with typical Colombian meal choices. No menu or prices are posted though, the wait staff just comes to your table and lists what they have to offer. The open air restaurant overlooks a swimming pool and the rushing Rio Negro. They can arrange rafting, canyoneering, rappelling, and zip line tours. ||||Room: My room was small, but clean. A single at the time of writing (with breakfast included) was COP 100,000 (US$40). No hot water, no AC, but it was comfortable with just the fan provided (June). ||||Meals: The meals were good. Very large portions. The wait staff didn’t seem accustomed to or comfortable working with a poor Spanish-speaking foreigner like me. I was never able to get a second cup of coffee, despite asking twice. ||||Front Desk: The woman running the front desk was helpful and patient with my poor language skills. She arranged a river trip for me (single in a “ducky” inflatable kayak, COP 60,000 (US$24)).||||Rafting: The rafting staff was part of the hotel’s operation. The three guides were friendly and more accustomed to working with foreigners. The trip was only about 45 minutes of actual river time (very short) in my experience. Rafting cost including paddles, life jacket, helmet, guide was COP 30,000 (US$12). ||||Pros: The hotel was busy on a holiday weekend, yet very family friendly. Kids were playing in the pool all day, there are hammocks to take a nap in next to the river, and the place was secure and the people friendly. It's inclusive, so one never really has to leave the grounds if that's your thing. Bar on site too. Beer served at 9 a.m. I noticed too, if you consider that a "pro."||||Cons: Loud music beats from the restaurant’s outdoor speakers from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. If Colombian pop and electronica is not your thing, this is not the place. It’s loud during the day with patrons' dogs barking, children screaming (at having fun), a peacock screeching, and blaring music--none of which you can escape on the premises. Me gustó mucho. Desde el principio nos hicieron sentir súper bien. Buenas instalaciones, muy limpias (las limpiaban juiciosamente todos los días). La comida estuvo deliciosa, ese churrasco: 👌🏻. La piscina también estaba bastante bien. Y la vista al río era espectacular, sin mencionar su ruido arrullador. Lo único malo (y les anticipo) es el tema de la conectividad. La señal es mala y la única opción es el Wifi del hotel, que cuando no hay mucha gente funciona a las mil maravillas. El hotel tiene convenio con un restaurante de comida rápida (la hamburguesa mexicana, buenísima) y una agencia de turismo extremo. No se pierdan las experiencias ofrecidas y apoyen las iniciativas locales. En realidad, la experiencia fue muy buena y quedamos con ganas de volver y seguir descansando. Súper recomendado.

Por cierto, quedamos súper enamorados de las mascotas del lugar....

Un hotel grande y bonito, con mucho potencial.

La habitación con vista al río tienen una vista muy linda, sin embrago, para el valor que cobran por noche les hace falta, ya que en la habitación el baño no tenía chapa, así que no se podía cerrar la puerta, en el balcón de la habitación había una parte sin puerta en donde ubicaron una malla mal puesta que se caía sola y el televisor miniatura no sintonizaba ningún canal.

En el resto del hotel el servicio lo prestaban pocas personas, así que si uno iba a comprar algo en el kiosko tocaba buscar quién lo atendiera.

Tienen un salón de juegos y una terraza con muchísimo potencial pero totalmente abandonados y descuidados, así que no nos animó pasar tiempo allí.

Al parecer centran toda su atención en la piscina y el resto lo han olvidado.

Un lugar con mucho potencial, con dos señores muy amables y la ubicación...
