Los Colores is a special spot. We were considering staying in the Reserva Rio Claro, but we wisely decided to try our luck at Los Colores. It’s a first class hotel, it’s in the details.||||The room: we had a standard room, and it was huge. High ceilings, extra large shower and bathroom, and tons of space to move around and play. We set up a pack-n-play for the baby and still had room for our double bed, the 5-year-old’s bed (with a trundle roll-out bed underneath) and space to play. The shower is great, with a very high showerhead, tall enough for me (I’m 6’4”, 194cm). There are long shelves in the room, as well as several hooks. ||||The grounds: there are two trampolines, natural areas (a lake, a small island, paths on which we spotted a large iguana, a white heron, fish in the creek, frogs, and toads), a play structure for little kids, and a fantastic pool. The pool is about 17m long, long enough to swim laps. It was very clean. There is a game room with a pool table, and a ping-pong table and rana. It is a vast swath of green space, with trees and bushes everywhere. You can find a wide variety of tropical flowers and the sound of birds chirping all day. ||||The restaurant: one morning, I ate with my two small boys, not the easiest task. The waitresses helped with the child seat (high quality, no risks of falling out or hurting themselves like in many hotel high chairs), extra napkins and plates as needed (fast!!), and were generally extremely attentive, looking for ways to help. The wait staff is paying attention to the guests, we NEVER had to call them. That’s helpful.||||The staff at the hotel are kind, customer service oriented (I couldn’t find the key when leaving, so they asked me to send it to them instead of charging me – this is how you keep clients long term), and present.||||There are cabins and rooms, and the property, as I said is huge. The hotel is 32 years old, but it appears newly remodeled and impeccably clean. The best of both worlds – a natural environment where you can spot and hear animals and walk on paths through flowery woods, coupled with the mod-cons one would expect in a high-end hotel. A perfect spot for our family, and I would also stay there with...
Read moreWe stayed here with our birding group for two nights. Wish we could have stayed longer and done some of the other activities offered in the area such as river rafting and caving.||||The hotel had a unique set up for rooms with different types of options. We were in a little cluster of rooms so that our group was together. Our room was large with a nice bathroom.||||It was just a short walk to the reception desk and adjacent swimming pool, which was refreshing. They even provided pool towels. We could also walk across a pond to get to the restaurant where we had our dinners. ||||The location of the restaurant was awkward ... along a busy, noisy street. It was strange that they played 70's and 80's pop hits on the stereo system. The service was not very organized; they would carry out one cup of coffee at a time instead of putting them on a tray. And they weren't able to keep up with the need for refills.||||We enjoyed walking around the grounds birding. It's a perfect place to stay while visiting the nearby Rio Claro Nature Reserve.||||The only minor complaint was that they were doing some very noisy construction work near our room during the day which impacted the ability to take a quick nap; luckily I had good earplugs that blocked most...
Read moreTraveling from Bogota the Eco lodge is located about 30min past the turn off to Puerto Triunfo and about 10min beyond Hacienda Napoles. For the reception drive beyond the large road side restaurant. The rooms are sparse, minimal furniture but certainly clean and comfortable. Given the warm humid weather we took a room with air-conditioning which I would highly recommend. You will also appreciate the cool shower (read no hot water). During peak periods the lodge is used by families travelling from Bogota or Medellin to visit the Hacienda theme park or take part in the many eco activities. The pool is an advantage and the hammocks cool to just chill out. Give the restaurant a miss and had back into Dorado and enjoy the atmosphere of a street side diner. ||Other considerations. Few of the staff speak English. Internet is not the best, but it is off the track. Good luck with pool towels. That said...
