Portal del Sol — Hotel in Putumayo

This Is one of the best places we have stayed during all our travels around the world. The location is lovely, right on the edge of the rainforest. There is a walking trail that goes into the forest, where we saw 3 species of primates. Don’t worry that the lodge is 800 meters from the paved road. The owner John Jairo will transport your luggage to the lodge on his motorbike. The room is perfect with a nice view over the forest and a good bathroom (sometimes with hot water). The room doesn’t have windows, but you don’t need a fan or airco. But the big attraction of this lodge are the owners: Alexandra and John Jairo. They are so incredible friendly and really willing to make the best out of your holiday. When it is raining, they bring an umbrella to your room. We told them that Dutch people like yogurt, the next day she has made delicious home made yoghurt. Just 2 examples. We only eat veggie food, but that was no problem at all. A fantastic place, lost in the jungle, surrounded by an incredible biodiversity of fauna and flora. The ecolodge is super nice, the people very friendly and welcoming, the service impeccable. The food is based on local products, and, they offer so many typical dishes of the region that vegetarian or vegan food. Recommended for all types of stay: -To rest and reconnect with oneself and nature. -For adventurers in search of wildlife. -For hikers looking for physical activity in nature. -And for people who want to know the culture of peasant families in Colombia. In short, a truly charming place where lovely people, traditions and the beauty of nature will recharge you with the best energies.

Un lugar fantástico, perdido en la selva, rodeado por una increíble biodiversidad de fauna y flora. El ecolodge es super bonito, las personas muy amables y acogedoras, el servicio impecable. La comida está a base de productos locales, y, se ofrecen tantos platos típicos de la región que comida vegetariana o vegana. Recomendado para todo tipo de estadía: -Para descansar y reconectarse con uno mismo y la naturaleza. -Para aventureros en búsqueda de avistar fauna silvestre. -Para senderistas en busca de actividad física en la naturaleza. -Y para personas que desean conocer la cultura de las familias campesinas de Colombia. I had such an amazing time at Portal Del Sol. The location is already worth every penny and add to that some really beautiful, comfortable accommodations. You’ll see and hear so many different birds, monkeys and bugs! The nearby waterfall is beautiful with a nice hike to get to it. I would chill quite a bit in the bird tower and really enjoyed birdwatching there and at the hostel itself. John Jairo and Alexandra were the kindest hosts. Alexandra is a great cook and John Jairo was happy to show me around the property. One of my favorite places I stayed in Colombia and that’s saying a lot! Hope to go back one day.
