I stayed here with my husband and two friends at the beginning of March. Each couple occupied one of the two glamping tents perched on a hill about a 10 minute (or less depending) walk from the main farm house. Before we had even been shown our rooms, we saw at least five species of birds new to us from the porch at the main house that overlooks a garden designed for the birds. As far as driving to the location: there's really only one bad spot in the road but it is steep and rocky and I do not think anything other than 4wd (AND a good driver) would make it up or down. The owners are helpful in coordinating rides and arranged another local inn for us to leave our car for the two days we were there. We then were able to Whatsapp the driver for picking up from Cocora, etc. As far as the glamping tents themselves, they're basic but very comfortable, with a bed, a small table/water, little shelves and full plumbing in the bathroom. The only couple of very minor issues that we had with the rooms are that the water gets very hot or cold but it is hard to get it comfortable (this certainly could have been user-error) and I think more hooks would have been very helpful. The owners provided us with lights to use at night but we also brought some extras that were handy. The resident biologist/waiter/all purpose helper Cristian, was insanely valuable for helping us identify new bird species. We also went on the nighttime excursion with him where we saw a nightjar and the Queen of the Night--a beautiful chocolate frog. Overall we had an incredible, unforgettable time here thanks in large part to the kind staff (and friendly pups--I miss you Dona!) that made us feel so welcomed (and fed us well!) Highly recommend as a base for touring the coffee region....
Read moreWe stayed for two days in late January. The birds were not particularly active for some reason but sometimes that is just the way it is. The property is amazing. You have to come up a rough road that needs 4 wheel drive high clearance vehicle. Once you are there you are in a quiet oasis. About half cattle farm and half well grown or old growth forest as far as I can tell. Views are beautiful. We stayed in the hotel which is an extension of the owners home. The owners are nice people and treat you like family. They can provide english or spanish speaking bird guides. I would have never seen the quetzel without the guide. Accomodations are a little basic. There isn't great water pressure for shower but you can have a decent shower. The food is quite good and is cooked by the owner. A big bonus is Maria the aunt who arranges things by WhatsApp and is very responsive and helpful. She pretty well takes care of you in real time. For instance your Jeep is late she tracks down the driver and lets you know...
Read moreMy husband and I just stayed in one of the glamping tents for 3 nights and it was a fantastic experience! The owners and staff are extremely friendly and hospitable and the property is beautiful. We saw so many beautiful birds and got great photos which was the purpose of the stay. We also were able to walk to valle de cocora for hiking (approx 1 hour walk to the start of the hike). The tents don’t have wifi or electricity but it is easy to charge everything and use the wifi at the main house (5 min walk from tents). We ate almost every meal there and the food was fantastic! Also suggest doing the night safari with Cristian as we saw some amazing wildlife. Highly recommend staying here if...
