Inn Dreams of Antonio — Hotel in Santander

Wonderful gem in quaint and sleepy Barichara. The host spoke perfect English and was extremely helpful for all our needs, including hiring a car to drive us to the airport in Bucamaranga. The grounds are gorgeous, with birds and plants in a beautiful courtyard. Breakfast was made to order, the room was spacious, and the view spectacular. Two small suggestions for improvement. First, mosquito nets over the beds would allow guests to sleep with the large balcony doors open to enjoy the night breeze, especially on hot days (like in July). Second, there was a hint of odor from the neighboring compost on our balcony--fixing that would have made our balcony experience even better. The Inn’s name is Antonio’s Dream, Room No.5 is our dream suite. Barichara is so tranquil and this room is a rare find nowadays. We requested mosquito net over our bed after reading one of the reviewer’s comment. There, it was. We slept with the balcony door opened, listening to the cicadas in the evening and thundering at night, it’s like camping in a luxury tent. The open-air shower is just fantastic. We were concerned about the open-air shower beforehand, but trust me, you will definitely enjoy it when it’s 28C. The hot water is derived from a solar-heated tank, and probably that’s why a few reviewers complained about the lukewarm water, but the temperature is adequate. Together with 2 other friends, we booked 3 rooms in this centrally located property which turned up to be a basic hotel with very small rooms a even smaller malfuntioning bathrooms. Chairs or tables are not available in the rooms, nor is a minibar. One friend had a very noisy room facing the street; another friend had a room without a window. I was the only "lucky one" with a room with a smallish balcony and no sound from the outside. Breakfast was basic with bad quality juice, coffee and chocolate.
