I had a great time at Hostel Caminos de Suesca. My friend and I originally booked 5 nights and ended up staying for 2 weeks for the entire vacation in Sursca. We came for the climbing and I am glad we chose this hostel because it’s the closest place to stay at the crag.
Felipe the owner is a local climbing guide and was able to help us find awesome climbs and all of the local advice/beta we needed. We brought all our own gear so we didn’t need to hire him as a guide but we still were able to pick his brain about what to climb which was a huge bonus. We even climbed one of the routes he set himself! Behind the Virgin there’s a sport 5.9 he put up.
The hostel itself is cozy and a good value. We stayed in a double room meaning two rooms with a bed in each and our own bathroom. The shower had hot water and he changed the sheets and cleaned our room which was great.
There is a shared kitchen which we didn’t end up using because food in town was good and cheap. Felipe also shared with us all his favorite restaurants and cafes which were all delicious. If you need a place to stay for a day or two weeks and want value and proximity to the climbing then this is the place!
Colombians are some of the most kind people I’ve met and Felipe, his family, are just that, extremely helpful and friendly! Can’t wait to come back and spend time here again. Peace Suesca, see...
Read moreI stay here for a week while climbing in Suesca and it was very comfortable, extremely close to the rocks and quite inexpensive for a solo room. The owner Felipe and his family and employees are all very friendly and provide great hospitality. ||There are a few good and cheap restaurants nearby and a kitchen at your disposal. There is also a small bouldering wall and hangboard if you want to train when you aren´t climbing and two hammocks to chill in. ||On my rest day I rented a good mountain bike from them at a fair price and explored the surrounding area which was great. ||If you are new to climbing or there with family Felipe also offers many adventurous activities such as climbing/caving/etc. through his company Vertical Extremo and looks to be quite good and...
Read moreI wouldn’t expect much if you’re hoping to have a social experience here. There are few rooms and it was a ghost town. Amenities are bare necessities, the showers are lukewarm, and communication leaves a bit to be desired. Locks on the doors to the rooms can be jimmied open with very little elbow grease so if security is high priority keep that in mind. I hate to say it but the whole place feels like an afterthought. Oh and the hang board is slightly terrifying
That said, this is the closest cheap lodging you’ll find for the crags, basically next door to a convenience store with pastries, next to the climbing store, and you’re only 20 minutes walk away from great CHEAP food.
So, if literally all you care about is having a mattress, a roof, and privacy, then...
