Staff is wonderful. Seriously beyond amazing. We have traveled extensively all around the world and I've worked in 4 diamond hotels and I have never experienced the perfect blend of warm and welcoming and still casual, but still upscale and 5 star quality. Its really hard to explain what a little gem you have so let me tell you more about our stay. Randall not only helped us with some confusing situations my travel agent caused (with transfers, etc.) by calling folks up and translating for us, but he went above and beyond to make us feel like family at Copa de Arbol. We expressed our nervousness about our booked scuba diving trip, since we had been out of the water for quite a few years. Somehow, he made a private dive trip happen. He is running a great show, and made us feel so welcome and comfortable. Albert not only makes the BEST cocktails (including letting us know he has tried every combination of pina colada possible to perfect his recipe, which is the ultimate I've ever had), but he is basically a wildlife guide too, sharing with us information about so many birds and animals on the property, including where he had spotted a taipir! His mixology is unlike any other resort we have been in the entire country of Costa Rica. Greivin's and Henry's meal service was phenomenal. Anything we needed, we had. Any options that were possible, they explained. All with sharing personal stories and getting to know us and anticipating our needs. We felt so taken care of. Johnny was always happy and smiling and attentive and added to the team. The chefs, who we, unfortunately, didn't get to meet, need to be praised. When you typically think all-inclusive resort, you the food will be just OK. But not here, your food is beyond delicious. Every single meal was a hit out of the park! Flavorful, creative, and with variety and gorgeous presentations. We can't thank your chefs enough for providing meals we will remember as being the best we've had on vacations anywhere! The dive company they contract with, Pirate Cove divers, are wonderful. Randall helped coordinate with Pirate Cove and let them know about a serious case of the nerves we had going into the trip (from being out of the water for so long and a past bad experience). They showed up with a private trip, 2 dive masters, and a great staff. Divemaster Ana was SOOOOO amazing, helping us through and giving us the redemption we had needed so badly. It didn't hurt we saw SO many amazing things like sharks, turtles, octopus, and gorgeous fish, and dophins too! We arrived back to our cabina to a troop of Capuchin monkeys climbing on our roof and peeking over the edge. We watched them move through the property for an hour, so unbelievably awesome! Our rooms were always clean and comfortable. The pool and hot tub are so refreshing and clean. Just a great place to relax. The staff set up a nice beach day for us the next day too, and then a final private cocktail on our last night before we headed up to dinner. They MADE...
Read moreI really cannot express how great our stay was! We loved our room and the incredible view from our windows. We loved the pool and the incredible view from it. In the middle of the rain forest, this resort is so remote that even getting there is an adventure, but it is well worth it. The staff are kind and were very forgiving of my incredibly limited and bad Spanish. They know you, call you by name, and remember your preferences. They provide you with the things you didn't know you needed, like a dry bag. When we weren't able to attend a tour we booked, they scheduled a last minute massage to replace it. To a person, everyone we met went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. Things that anyone considering going here should note:
They aren't joking about the water landing. You are going to wade through water to get to the shore. They'll make sure your luggage is safe and dry, and I recommend taking your shoes off and just walking in on the sandy beach, but if you're short, your shorts are going to get wet. Every time. There really aren't any mosquitos or other biting bugs. The ecosystem is balanced, something that is so rare it caught me by surprise, and the abundance of reptiles, spiders, and other things that eat mosquitos make them almost non-existent. You're in the rainforest- there is wildlife. There are house geckos in the room that will chirp at you when you turn on the lights in the morning, there are little hermit crabs on the walkways after dark, and there are spiders on the plants. There are also incredible birds - two toucans sat outside our room every day, and macaws flew over every day. We saw hummingbirds every day. We saw white faced Capuchin and howler monkeys on property, and there are stray dogs that the staff takes care of. It's incredible and mostly harmless, but know they are there if you're not used to them. The septic system is delicate and does not accept toilet paper. You put it in a basket beside the toilet. It never smelled, and it is not nearly as gross as people who have never done it might think it is, but if that's a deal breaker for you, you should know it going in. Spend time talking with the staff. Their stories are amazing, and they bring Costa Rica to life in a way that is hard to grasp in any other way.
We rarely go to the same place twice, and we have already reached out to book another visit. This was a truly magical experience. A special thank you to Brayan, Estaban, Lisbeth, Greivin, Daniel, and Albert for taking such good care of us. We...
Read moreThis was a wonderful experience. Stay as long as your budget allows, there is plenty to do. My wife and I stayed 4 nights but could’ve stayed more. The groups for the tours are very small and sometimes private! Every single guide was exceptional! Our guide for Corcovado was Isaac. We ate at the Sirena ranger station and had good food. Isaac carried a scope with him and was very fast spotting and scoping the animals. You could bring binoculars or an expensive camera if you want but my iPhone using his scope was all that I used. (I will post pictures to show you how good it works). We had Derek for the Cano island snorkeling tour. I used my iPhone in a waterproof case with small tissue inside to show that it stayed dry. If the tissue ever got wet, I was going to return the phone to the boat. But it stayed dry the entire time. The case did mute the colors somewhat but I will post pictures and videos to show you how clear this water is. We had Anthony for the night hike. He is also wonderful. We did the Naguala waterfall hike and also highly recommend it. We walked a short 25 minute walk for Wilber to pick us up in his vehicle to drive us to his property. He owns about 100 acres that provides access to the waterfall. Him and his wife are wonderful locals who then fed us. They preserve the area. The food and friendliness is incredible. It was like eating at a local soda. My wife and I had the entire falls to ourselves for the morning. However, as we were leaving to return for lunch another couple was coming. Look for my pictures of this waterfall. It is beautiful. We had a deep tissue massage which was outstanding! I wish we had time for the Rio Claro tour the birdwatching tour and the horseback riding! We also could’ve easily spent a day just lounging by their pool or even using their snorkeling equipment or kayaks near the resort! The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The service is great. I will post a picture of a few of the waiters that were working the day we were leaving. We feel like we know them and which we had gotten a picture of all of them. We took advantage of the laundry service so don’t feel you need to pack a lot. The room was clean, comfortable, air conditioned and well furnished. I read a review that mentioned that they treat you like royalty when you first arrive but then they become family and I totally understand...
