So glad we landed here. My partner and I made a last-minute decision to spend a few days on the Osa Peninsula at the end of a three week trip to Costa Rica. This beautiful rustic resort is surrounded by jungle and located a short distance by boat past Drake Bay. Boat captains leaving Siepe will drop you a short walk north of the lodging on San Josecito beach. The boat ride is a little more than an hour and is a beautiful excursion itself. We arrived planning to spend three nights, but added a fourth because we didn’t want to leave. Our cabin was immaculate, with a nicer bed and far nicer linens than I expected to find so far from civilization. Daily service was a nice touch and the housekeepers even did our laundry. No AC, but a ceiling fan, mosquito nets and walls nearly covered by screens kept a beautiful breeze moving. Sleeping and waking to the jungle sounds was the reward for no noisy air conditioning. The resort offers any number of excursions through local operators. We did only one, a morning hike at nearby San Padrillo in the Parque Corcavado, which was truly enjoyed. But what I liked best was retiring to a hammock in the shade and reading. Turns out one of the owners of the property is a rainforest preservation activis, and his Rainforest Medicine was on the bookshelf. It was a perfect accompaniment to the surroundings. I barely got started on the book but I’ve ordered a copy for my return home. The communal meals were delicious, with exquisite and interesting company from Europe, Canada the States and Costa Rica. The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. My partner had no problem accessing gluten-free dairy free meals. Breakfast is included, lunches and dinners offered him an extra charge. We had all our meals there and were never disappointed. A yoga class was offered every morning at 7 AM, which we really enjoyed. The classes were held in a beautiful building that would’ve been at home in Bali. I’ll add pictures. As we were leaving, a group was arriving to take over the resort for a yoga retreat. Don’t miss the walk up to the top of the ridge and the incredible views of the coast below. We are already dreaming our next trip to Ocean Forest.

An amazing, special place. We were totally blown away. It’s an incredible location, really in the jungle and on the beach at once. We saw macaws, capuchin monkeys and toucans all on the grounds. The gardens are beautiful, and we really enjoyed lounging in the hammocks in the common areas and on our balcony. The food is delicious, healthy and well portioned! Everyone there was super nice and welcoming- and very accommodating! Gustavo made sure we could have breakfast at 5:15am one morning before our tour. The coffee is really good and strong, I enjoyed that. San Josecito beach is only an easy 15 minute walk along a beach path where we even saw a rare occurrence- a family of spider monkeys with a cute baby right in the trees next to the path. The beach is perfect for swimming - shallow and calm and has good snorkeling, too! You can see cute fish and the water is nice and warm. There are cute dogs too that are free to walk along the beach and sometimes will follow you down the path for a bit - they are very happy, and are not strays, and we really enjoyed them! I recommend tours in Corcovado at La Sirena and Caño island snorkeling! Also the Rio Claro canoe trip and the waterfall tour through the lodge. We did the waterfall tour through the lodge and enjoyed the tour of the ocean forest farm after with Victor! We tasted sugarcane, turmeric and ginger straight from the ground! They made our beds and cleaned our room everyday which was so nice! We had the best time and are already planning our next trip back! There is so much to see and do, and the environment could not be better. Amazing people, amazing food, amazing beach and nature — Pura Vida! Paradise

We LOVED Ocean Forest Ecolodge! My husband and I stayed in a beach bungalow and it was so serene to be on the edge of the jungle and the ocean. We loved that it was so secluded and there was so much life on the property. The 15 min beach walk from the taxi to the lodge was made much easier with help from the ecolodge. The food was AMAZING! So much variety. A different fresh juice with each meal. Loved that we got to try native plants that we've never heard of before! We are vegan and were so pleased by all of the food. It was delicious, fresh, and nourishing. They even made a special tea with a local plant when my husband had an upset stomach. We enjoyed walking to San Josecito beach and appreciated Elizabeth scheduling our snorkeling tour at Caño island. High tide was pretty intense, we could only swim comfortably during low tide. We also really enjoyed the monkeys that came through the property a few of the days! We also saw macaws, lizards, crabs, a Toucan in the distance, and many different birds. The rooms were very clean. I was actually expecting more bugs since we were in the jungle but was pleasantly surprised. The only thing that I was a little uncomfortable about was the stray dogs. They live all up and down the beach at least 15 min in either direction. I think the main home base is on San Josecito beach, we saw 7 or 8 there. I think they are probably harmless, there were people petting them and they seemed very docile and friendly, but as someone who was once bitten by a stray dog in another country, I was a little on edge with it. Highly recommend this if you are looking for a jungle sanctuary on the beach!

Our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids ages 18, 15, 12) stayed at Ocean Forest Eco Lodge for 3 nights. We elected to take the boat from Sierpe as it is considered the rainy season. The boat ride from Dode Jorge was easy to board and cost $30/person/ each way. We paid for parking in Sirepe for $6 / day. Our rental car was kept safe and secure. The landing at San Josecito Beach is wet to your waist, but the crew ensured our bags stayed dry. Once on the beach Jonathan and crew were there to meet us and help us with our bags. On the walk back to the lodge we saw scarlet macaws, toucans, capuchin monkeys, and basilisk lizards. All this in a 15 min walk! Jonathan stopped and told us about the trees and even shared edible fruits with my kids, which they loved and went back to vist several times through out our stay. |Once at the lodge we were shown to our rooms the Solo Bueno Suz and Solo Bueno Norte. These rooms share a wall, but each have their own bathrooms which was great for a family of 5. The bungalows have fans, hot running water, electric plugs and access to WiFi, but are still rustic. You do need to use the provided mosquito nets at night! The best part is the view from the decks. You can sit and watch toucans, macaw, capuchins, crested guans, humming birds and butterflies all while relaxing in your personal hammock. Nature surrounds you and if your lucky enough to watch a lightning storm from your room at night the show is amazing! ||If you decide to buy lunch and dinner, the meals you get are fresh, healthy and a testament to real Costa Rican cuisine. There are not really any other easy options so I would plan on eating all your meals at the lodge. If you have picky eaters beans and rice are always an option which worked well for my kids.||Our family went on two tours that Ocean Forest booked for us. We went to the sirena station in the National Park and horseback riding into the forest. In the park we saw a sleeping tapir and had a great guide, but other than the tapir I think we saw more animals at the lodge. The horse back ride was an unexpected highlight for our family. The views are breath taking and the waterfall swim was so refreshing. I would recommend both tours, but really our best time was spent exploring the grounds around the lodge and on the beach. We swam, listed to the whales, body surfed the waves, watched the sun set, searched for sea turtles and played in the bioluminescent water at night. Overall, Jonathan and his team provided our family with a real Costa Rican vacation. One where you can emerse yourself in the plant and wildlife around you and learn to enjoy all nature has to offer. This is not a tourist trap, instead you are an honored guest in the family and serenity Ocean Forest Eco Lodge...

We stated here for 2 nights and the venue is simply wonderful. Just note that you'll either have a 15 minute walk along the beach if dropped off by car, or a 20 minute walk if dropped off by boat, which means the wheels on your suitcase will be useless... We loved the grounds that the accommodation is set in, awesome plants, flowers, trees and lawn areas gave the whole site a beautifully tranquil vibe. There is loads of activity from birds, monkeys & other jungle wildlife which makes for great entertainment both morning and evening. We stayed in a Jungle Suite which was super roomy and had 2 single beds and a double bed, all with mosquito nets, towels and clean linen. The beds were very comfortable and sleeping was not an issue, once you get used to the jungle chorus. The bathroom facilities were more than sufficient but bear in mind the shower is cold water only...which was ideal given the temperatures and humidity during our visit. The room had a ceiling fan which we rarely used but it did also have a wall mounted fan that was used a great deal to cool off after showers. You are in a densely forested area so there was the occasional critter in the room but nothing that couldn't be encouraged back outside. There is power into the rooms so you are able to charge devices if that is needed. The meals provided are ample in portion size. Fixed breakfast options and fruit juice are provided, and for the evening meal you get a soup, main course and sweet. The staff are more than happy to cater for dietary requirements which was also really good to see. The only thing to note is that food is a fixed menu and served at a set time which you will have to work around if you are planning day trips or excursions. There is access to good WiFi in the dining area if needed. There aren't really any other nearby places to eat if you were thinking of going off site for a change, although the next beach to the north has the 'Life for a Life' hostel which includes the Sunset Restaurant if you wanted a different view. There is a coastal trail that you can easily follow to Drake Bay which will give you lots more options but this is likely to take about 2.5hrs to walk (approx 10km, each way) and boat rides/taxi's are expensive due to the remote location. We had a great 2 night stay at Ocean Forest Ecolodge which we used as a proper retreat and relax so weren't too worried about the lack of other properties close by. If you are looking to switch off, this place...
