Stay at Finca Mei Tai if you want an authentic stay in Costa Rica close to the Tenorio national park and Rio Celeste. You will feel like part of the family when you leave. This is not a place for you if you want ultra luxurious air-conditioned accommodations. Our family loved our three night stay in the Manta bungalow, a wooden structure on a small pond at the edge of a mountainous rainforest. Finca Mei tai is an operating cacao farm and bed-and-breakfast. The manta bungalow has a spacious outdoor living area and kitchen as well as two separate enclosed bedrooms with a large bathroom that connects the two bedrooms. There was plenty of room for our family of four. The bird watching from the patio area was outstanding and a huge hit with my bird-loving daughter as we saw countless parrots and toucans. Our son enjoyed exploring the trails on the property as well as fishing in the ponds. The best part of the Finca, however, is the delicious made-to-order breakfast that Cecile will serve each morning. We enjoyed fresh-squeezed juices, French press local arabica coffee, made-to-order eggs, homemade bread, locally sourced jams, and even world-class chocolates made with their cacao beans. Cecile has many great suggestions of local places to visit and eat. Take the time to explore the grounds. A stay here is a unique and personal experience, and we hope to...

Read moreMy group of 9 friends stayed in 3 of the Finca bungalows for 5 nights. We had a great time. Bijagua is just enough off the beaten path for it to not feel touristy but not so much that it’s inaccessible to tourists. We found plenty of (reasonably priced) adventures and tours to fill our days thanks in part to Cecile’s great suggestions. Cecile’s homemade breakfasts each morning were definitely a highlight. They make it very easy to spend a lazy day around the finca exploring their trails or the nearby rio zapote. They will arrange food delivery for you and serve it in style at their onsite outdoor restaurant. There is also a beverage fridge available 24/7 and fresh coffee and chocolate drinks made to order throughout the day. It is a small family operation but everything ran very smoothly. Cecile was very communicative and although there were some minor issues with our rooms, it did not take away from the overall experience and Cecile and Eric did what they could to resolve the issues. Tortuga was my favorite bungalow because of the lovely outdoor seating area with Bluetooth speakers. The internet worked great in the rooms or at the restaurant. The finca is such a beautiful and relaxing way to spend your time in Bijagua. Make sure to enjoy the sounds and sights of the early mornings in this...
